Brooklyn, NY 11201

Downtown Brooklyn is undergoing some exciting renovations. This fast growing commercial center is a need for a little more green and open space for residents. Willoughby Square will serve as a 50,000 square feet park with an underground parking lot beneath it.

The revitalization is part of 2004's Downtown Brooklyn Redevelopment Plan and is designed by Hargreaves Associates. The design process included input from the community and local residents. The final design will include an Underground Railroad commemoration according to the New York City Economic Development Corp.

Willoughby Square is located on Willoughby Street, between Gold and Duffield Streets. The surrounding area includes new hotel developments, apartment towers and the BAM Cultural District. According to the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, the garage will have 700 parking spaces. Construction is currently on hold until a lease is made for the new Willoughby Square Garage.
