Spokane, WA 99201
515 W. Sprague Ave, Spokane, WA 99201. 509-838-6285
Historic elegance and modern amenities make the West Coast Ridpath Hotel a destination for both business and leisure travelers. A full-service downtown hotel, it is just steps away from the heart of Spokane's business, shopping and entertainment districts and a short walk to the Spokane Opera House and convention center.
The term "historic" is important to keep in mind, however. Since Colonel William Ridpath opened the doors in the early 1900s, guests have enjoyed the ambiance, and renovation has preserved the classic architecture and historic design. The lobby boasts inlaid marble floors and blends the best of the past and the present. However, the halls are narrow and the bathrooms are tiny. It takes a contortionist to flush the toilets (you have to be there to know what I mean). The whole hotel is a bit threadbare, which is why this AAA 3-star property is priced so reasonably for a downtown hotel.
Average price for a standard 2 queen, non smoking room $79. On-line, a room can sometimes be found for as low as $42-a bargain for the budget traveler.
Hotel amenities: room service, the only rooftop restaurant in town, casual grill and lounge, concierge, pets allowed health club, pool, handicapped rooms/facilities, airport shuttle. If you want to park your car at the hotel, expect to pay a $10 valet parking fee.
Room amenities: alarm clock, coffee maker, iron, ironing board, hairdryer, cable TV and pay-per-view movies. Hotel claims to have high speed internet access, but most traveler reviews warn not to count on it.

Davenport Hotel
807 West Sprague Ave, Spokane, WA 99201. 509-624-4455.
The historic Davenport Hotel was built in the early years of the last century. At the time it was the most elegant establishment in the region. But over time The Davenport fell into disrepair. In 2000 a $38 million restoration project brought The Davenport Hotel back it its former glory. The hotel's public spaces and ballrooms have been restored to what they would have looked like when they were new. (Yes, that's real gold leaf around the fireplace).
The lobby is elegant and a fun place to sit and watch the world go by. Rooms are well-appointed. Hotel is in walking distance of shopping and Riverfront Park.
