Downtown Sunnyvale Mathilda Bridge Project - Will it Ever End?
Neighborhood: Sunnyvale
Sunnyvale, CA 94086
United States of America
The Downtown Mathilda Bridge Project is going to continue to be a traffic thorn-in-our-side for another year-plus. This makes downtown holiday shopping difficult as you take the long way around into town. The scheduled date for completion, barring any delays such as weather, is scheduled for early in 2012 according to Sunnyvale Economic Development. While that seems like an eternity for anyone who has to take this route every day, the improvements will be a far cry better than the old, outdated bridge deemed "functionally obsolete."

The improvements include a standard lane with shoulders, ADA compliant sidewalks, and new curbs. We will also get a "functional" off-ramp for Evelyn Ave in both directions. The Charles Ave Cul-de-sac will be completed, along with ramps for pedestrians, and much needed traffic lights at the corner of Mathilda and California, and the South bound ramp. For now, Charles Ave remains blocked to through-traffic with concrete blocks. When the project is complete, the road into downtown Sunnyvale will be an inviting gateway to our city.
