Dowsing Rods: What They Do and How to Make Them

Bryce Baker
Ever seen a movie or read a book, where a man is searching for water using a forked stick? Thats a Dowsing Rod or Diviner's Rod the person is using, one of the many variations.

You may be wondering "does that actually work?". The answer will vary depending on who you ask. Science says No, it doesnt work. But others, myself included, know they work. In fact if you ask some of your local city workers who lay and fix waterpipes, you may be surprised to learn that they use variations of Divining Rods to quickly find pipes. Many of the wells found on old farms locations were selected by use of dowsing as well.

Actually, you probably know about Dowsing to some extent, most people do. But a common misconception is that its only used to find water. While Divining Rods tend to find water quite easily, they can be and are used to find just about anything your looking for. From misplaced items and lost treasures, to invisible energy fields and ley-lines.

I am going to tell you how to make and use your own Divining Rods. But first I would like to point out that there are many variations of Divining Rods and Dowsing tools in general. Some fit certain purposes better, but in general they are all equally effective. You see its not the tools themselves that are locating what your looking for, its your subconcious. The way I like to think of it is that we are all small parts of the universe, and therefore connected to it. The Dowsing tool is simply a way to connect your subconcious connection with the universe to your concious mind.

There are many different dowsing tools, but the one Im going to show you how to make and use is what I use personally and seems to be effective for most people. Get yourself some wire cutters and 2 wire hangers, cut a piece of wire from each hanger about the length of your elbow to the tip of your fingers but add a palms length to it. Once you have done that bend each piece in an L shape so that the longest part is as long as your elbow to the tip of your fingers, and the shortest part is a palms length. Hold them both in your hands like the illustration demonstrates, at just above waste level. Be sure you hold them loosely enough that they may swing about freely. Congratulations, you have your own Dowsing Rods. Some are made of different types of wood, we made these of metal wire as it seems to more receptive to your personal energy to find things other than just water.

Now time to put it to the test. One of the first things you should do is get a feel of how your Dowsing Tools signal things to you. This can be different from person to person. Start by holding them like in the illustration, just above waist level or however you feel comfortable really. Now start by asking simple questions you know the answer too aloud or in your mind, for example if your name is Bob ask "Is my name Bob?", however the rods react would suggest that is the way they signal a "yes" or "positive" answer. Now ask "Is my name Bill?" and however they react suggests that is a negative response. Often these responses will be both rods pointing inwards over eachother for a yes and outwards away from eachother for a no.

Once your satisfied with that, its time to find a buddy to help out. Have the other person hide an object you both agree upon in a room or somewhere in your house. Leave the room and allow them to hide it, when they come to tell you they are done have them stay out of the room so they dont give away the hiding spot accidentally. Go back into the room where the hidden object is, if the object was a quarter stop and ask in your mind or aloud "where is the quarter?", try to visualize it in your mind. Now stay still and think only of finding the quarter, watch the rods as they point in a certain direction. Slowly follow their lead, when you near the hiding spot they will give an affirmitive response, often pointing inward or swinging about randomly. This shouldnt take more than a few tries before you are able to find the object every time.

Now for something a little more interesting, to demonstrate the possibilities of these tools. Take a chair and place it on one side of the room, have your buddy stand facing the chair on the opposite side of the room. Stand between your buddy and the chair holding your Dowsing Rods. Ask your buddy to close his eyes and visualize himself in the very same room, standing where he is. Tell him to wait as long as he likes, then at random he should visualize himself walking across the room to the chair and sitting in it without saying anything. When he imagines himself sitting in the chair, you will tell him and see if you got it right. So once he begins closing his eyes, ask in your mind "where is my buddy? follow my buddy" and watch as they point over to your buddy standing there. When he is visualizing himself pacing across the room the dowsing rods will begin moving pointing to where he is visualizing himself in the room, until finally they stop at the chair and give an affirmitive response when he sits. Now tell your buddy he just sat in the chair. You will both be surprised.

Im sure you can come up with plenty of uses for your Dowsing Rods once you get a feel for them. I will leave it to your creativity to turn them into the highly useful tools they can be.
