Dr. Bronner's Magic Lavender Pure Castile Soap Review

The Pen
I've recently started using Dr. Bronner's Magic Castile Peppermint Soap and I got curious about the other varieties that Dr. Bronner's comes in, so I decided to try the Lavender Pure Castile Soap. I bought a 2oz trial size bottle for $1.99 from Target.

The tiny bottle is covered with a lavender and white wrapper that looks neat from afar, but up close it's kind of a busy mess. It has a lot of info and tips printed onto it. The liquid soap itself looks quite pure and natural, it's a pale yellow color.

Dr. Bronner's Lavender Castile contains water, saponified organic coconut, and organic olive oils (with retained glycerin), organic hemp oil, organic jojoba oil, lavandin extract, organic lavender oil, citric acid, and vitamin E.

All of the Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps are Fair Trade and contain no synthetics or petrochemicals, and even the bottles are made from 100% post consumer recycled plastic.

When I used this soap I found that the lavender scent was a lot stronger and bolder than I expected because other lavender scented products usually smell softer. I guess the pure lavender oil that's found in this castile soap is quite potent.

When I first applied the Lavender Castile Soap as a body wash I found that it's quite thin like the peppermint version but it creates a lot of bubbly lather that really removes oil and dirt easily.

Even though lavender is supposed to be calming, I found the scent to be more stimulating than relaxing, though it does soften a bit after a few minutes and it becomes more soothing. It's probably better to use it as a bubble bath if you're really trying to wind down though.

As a cleanser I found it to be a bit more intense than the Peppermint Castile, but it's also very hydrating. I've used it as a facial cleanser and it has kept my skin clear. It unclogs pores, gives me a glow, and it even dried out a large zit I had within a couple of days, all without drying out my skin.

There are lots of other uses for the Dr. Bronner's Lavender Pure Castile Soap. The only downside I've found is that it's not as deodorizing as the Peppermint version, the effect wears off faster.

In the End...

Although I don't really care for the strong lavender scent of this Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap, it keeps my skin looking and feeling great. I'll probably experiment with all of the Dr. Bronner's soaps before settling on a favorite, but I wouldn't mind buying the Lavender version occasionally. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
