Dr Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine

"Remember, the Eyes of Goldfoot Are Upon You."

E. Farnum
Before Austin Powers Goldmember, there was Dr Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine (1965) a send-up of the James Bond thriller Dr Goldfinger that hit the silver screen a year before.

A kitschy but excellent retro gem starring Vincent Price as a madcap scientist whose bikini machine creates sexy female robots that are sent out to seduce millionaires into signing over their assets. You can tell he had a great time with this role and he gives a solid comic performance - - along with the other cast members.

Special Intelligence Command (S.I.C.) agent Craig Gamble - - played by Frankie Avalon - -accidentally discovers the plot while chasing the lovely fembot Diane (Susan Hart) who mistakenly seduces him. The bumbling Goldfoot sidekick Igor (Jack Mullaney) has sent her to the wrong target. Avalon teams up with Dwayne Hickman who plays millionaire bachelor Todd Armstrong (the intended target). Comedy ensues as they confront Dr Goldfoot, and eventually results in a formulaic car, motorcycle, trolley, and minibike chase through San Francisco for the finale.

The Supremes perform the catchy title tune that creeps in throughout the movie, and Annette Funicello makes a cameo as the girl in the dungeon. Grab a bag of popcorn and transport yourself to the stylish 60's complete with a nightclub performance by Sam and the Apemen with singer Diane DeMarco. Directed by Norman Taurog, and produced by Samuel Z. Arkoff.

As evidence of this movie's cult status, the lyrics of the Rob Zombie song, "Living Dead Girl" make reference to "Goldfoot machine," how cool is that? Also, there is an electronic/pop retro band out there named, Bikini Machine.

I would never have known of this movie if it weren't for hulu.com (currently only available in the U.S.). An awesome website that streams full-length movies to your computer. (I need a bigger monitor now.) The fresh new website also offers HD clips.
