Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog Review

Liquid Fiction
Dr. Horrible is a super villain just trying make a name for himself in the world. Capt. Hammer is the constant test that prevents Dr. Horrible from progressing to the high echelon of villains. The complication comes in the form of a girl. Dr. Horrible has a secret crush on Penny, but she begins dating... Capt. Hammer. That's just the surface. It's a great metaphor for dating and life. If the girl of your dreams were dating another guy who's stronger and more handsome, you could relate to to Dr. Horrible. The actors are well cast. Neil Patrick Harris is Dr. Horrible. Who knew this guy could carry a tune. Much less emote and embody a character so well. He's certainly become a movie scene stealer (White Castle). And he's deserving of this spotlight. Nathan Fillon (Firefly & Serenity) is goodie two shoes Superhero Capt. Hammer. He's dumb, arrogant, and overconfident. He's the jock of superheroes. Felicia day is the love interest, catalyst, and inspiration. She has a beautiful- what I assume is a mezzo-soprano- singing voice. She anchors the musical and pulls the audience in. The script seems standard for a teen romance movie. But it tricks you as Joss usually does. It's on track for a predictable outcome, and then the train goes off the track. And I can't emphasize enough, the comedy aspect. Dr Horrible is created and written by the three Whedon brothers- Joss, Jed, and Zack along with Maurissa Tancharoen. The music, the dialogue, the story is all captivating. As the plot thickens, the songs get even better. "Once More with Feeling", the musical episode of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer is a cult classic that keeps growing. So this return to musical territory is applauded. To think, this was created during the writer's strike of 2007-2008. God bless their idle minds. Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
