I guess I should start off by telling you a little bit about the diet. Each week on his diet is called a cycle and there are 3 cycles to rotate through. According to Dr. Smith you can lose up to 4 pounds each week, for a total of 12 pounds after one rotation. But if you have more than this to lose, Dr. Smith says you can just begin at the first cycle again and do another rotation until you have reached your weight goal.
Simple enough. But to make the Extreme Fat Smash Diet a little more personal, Dr. Smith also assigns diet types, alpha, beta or gamma. The diet types are based on your past dieting experiences and later will determine the amount of food you can eat and how much exercise you must do on the diet. To top it all off, Dr. Smith also includes recipes in the back of the book and advice for exercising.
Let me just say this, Dr. Ian K. Smith obviously does not joke around. This diet is the definition of the word extreme. Each day of the diet comes with an assigned menu. And there has to be less than 800 calories for each day of the first week. The foods assigned are healthy, with lots of fiber and protein. This alone wouldn't be awful, but the exercise routine is extreme as well. On this program you start off with 55 minutes of exercise. Maybe more depending on your diet type. By the second day you could be doing 45 minutes of cardio in the morning and 40 minutes in the evening if you have right dieting type. All with just a few small servings of fruits, vegetables, beans and the occasional egg white each day.
On the Extreme Fat Smash Diet I was tired all of the time for the first week. I'm mostly on my feet at work each day and by the end of the day not only was my stomach having fits, my legs were weak. Dr. Ian K. Smith does provide a time schedule for you to follow with your menu. The schedule plans meals roughly every 2-3 hours. However because of my work day, I wasn't always able to follow it exactly. On the days that I was able to follow the time schedule for eating that Dr. Smith provides, I wasn't always hungry, but I was still tired. Working out at the end of the day was very difficult. But I did lose 4 pounds at the end of the week.
By the second cycle I felt a little better, but it still felt as though I was starving myself. On the last two weeks I lost a total of 5 more pounds. However I did cheat a little on the exercises. Most days I was just too pooped to even think about moving near the treadmill. So, at the end of the third week I decided the Extreme Fat Smash Diet was too extreme for me and I stopped it. I appreciate the nine pound loss, but the thought of going through week one again was too much for me. Maybe I'll try the Fat Smash Diet.
