Dr. Laura Schlessinger Ends 30-Year Radio Career in Shadow of N-Word Controversy
Radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger, known by most simply as "Doctor Laura," is ending a more than 30-year radio career in the shadow of the controversy surrounding her uses of the N-word in a conversation about racism she had on-air on August 10.
Schlessinger announced her plan to leave radio at the end of this year in an interview with CNN's Larry King, saying that she wants to be able to "...say what's on (her) mind and in (her) heart and...helpful and useful without someone getting angry or some special-interest group deciding...to silence a voice of dissent," adding that it was "time to move on...where (she) could say her piece and not have to live in fear anymore," as reported by RTTNews.com.
Always controversial
Dr. Laura--blunt, no-nonsense, and typically non-apologetic--has come under scrutiny over the years and has outraged both critics and listeners alike. No one is exempt from hearing her opinions on deadbeat parents, people making decisions, or life in general. In 2000, she went on the record as declaring "homosexuality...a biological error."
As unapologetic as she generally is, Dr. Laura did apologize last week--this time for the repeated use of the N-word in its entirety in conversation on-air with an African-American asking for her advice on dealing with a husband who did not protect her from comments seen as racially-based. What's next?
The L.A. Times reports that The Dr. Laura Show, with its 9 million weekly listeners, ranks third in talk show audiences behind Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, and holding its own with Michael Savage and Glenn Beck. Being such a popular show will mean that many radio stations will be at a loss for how to replace the void when she leaves, and the revenue Schlessinger currently generates.
Though she has decided to leave radio, Schlessinger said she will not be retiring (she is of retirement age). Instead, she will be devoting her work time to TV performances, YouTube, writing books, and maintaining a blog. In her leisure time, she will do the other things she enjoys, such as going out to lunch, sailing, running and yoga.

That DR. Laura is one UGLY dude !
She should not have repeated that word, but neither should others. Blacks have no more right to use offensive language about themselves than others do.
“Doctor†Laura has, for years dispensed dubious, perhaps dangerous, advice to the vulnerable and hurting. She is not a medical doctor, psychologist or mental health professional of any type. She is an irresponsible media personality who has taken it upon herself to pontificate on subjects about which she knows nothing. Her idiocy extends to her despicable views on gay people and her disgusting assumption that she can blithely use the same “n-word†that was used by other whites while they burned children alive in a southern church. (By the way I am white and a retired mental health professional). This moron needed to be off the air years ago. We will never know how many people she has damaged with her mental midget, pseudo-psychological , BS.
