DR. Laura's Revenge: A Job with SURIUS Radio

What Will Dr. Laura Schlessinger Say or Do Next?

A. Hermitt
You might remember Dr. Laura's N-word rant back in August 2010. In response to a question from an African American caller who had a white husband and wanted him and his friends to not use the N word, Dr. Laura decided to demonstrate uses of the word by saying it 11 times. www.youtube.com/watchThe caller was appalled and called the NAACP, a firestorm followed that resulted in her dismissal from her three decades long radio show.

With the release of her new book, Surviving a Shark Attack on Land, she feels vindicated, and like the incident was a blessing in disguise because she now works for a radio network that doesn't restrict her freedom of speech and now she can say whatever she wants.

Dr. Laura has always been a mixed bag for listeners. Even if you loved her, she would eventually say something to someone that many considered crossing the line. Some of the other offensive things she has said includes the following:

"If you're gay or a lesbian, it's a biological error that inhibits you from relating normally to the opposite sex. The fact that you are intelligent, creative and valuable is all true. The error is in your inability to relate sexually intimately, in a loving way to a member of the opposite sex it is a biological error."

In referring to a letter, "It goes on and says 'Pedophilia and child molestation have zero to do with being gay, homosexual orientation' and that's not true. That is not true. How many letters have I read on the air from gay men who acknowledge that a huge portion of the male homosexual populace is predatory on young boys."

The working mother has also berated mothers for working, and insists that women save themselves for marriage, stay married once they are they are, and anyone woman who doesn't is a "slut". Meanwhile, she has been in a position where a former boyfriend released naked pictures of her.

So needless to say Dr. Laura has a propensity for being mean... very, very mean. Based on her interview with Matt Lauer, she believes in revenge... and even wrote about it in her book. Still she has a loyal conservative following. I shudder to think of where her new radio show is going to go from here. I doubt I will find out about it first hand.

The ironic thing is, Dr. Laura is fabulous about getting to the root of the problem, but her extreme views on many subjects mar her credibility.
