Dr. Laura's Talk Radio Show is Coming to an End After 10 Years

Laura Schlessinger Has Been on the Radio for 10 Years, and it Will Be Finding an Abrupt End

After dropping the N-word 11 times to a caller on air, Dr. Laura has since apologized, but will be ending her radio show at the end of this year.

The good doctor says that she wants to 'regain her First Amendment right' and is not retiring or quitting. Call me crazy, but when you stop a show you've been doing for 10 years, scratch that-- when you stop doing ANYTHING that you've been doing for awhile, we normally regard that as quitting and/or retiring.

Dr. Laura feels like her freedom of speech has been harbored, and wants to find a way to get that back by saying what is on her heart and mind. Well, I'm sorry, but if you spout of any racial slur over any kind of media influence then you're going to be criticized to the 10th degree.

It's not that these things shouldn't be said, it's that there is a principle in the matter. Much like curse words are bleeped out on certain local stations, radio or TV, it still doesn't give anybody the right to say it. There are very impressionable children that watch TV and listen to radio shows, much like Dr. Laura's. How can we expect to explain to a 10 year old that the lady over the radio just stated some very racial slurs?

I guess it was different back when Laura Schlessinger grew up. Dr. Laura said that the use of the word was to show the caller that they were hypersensitive to racism, and that she was trying to make some type of philosophical point.

Really, Dr? What kind of 'philosophical' point do you make by blurting out a racial comment on air? Do you hope that this will help desensitize children to the word? That's great, now they can all run around saying it and getting beat up on the playground by other children of whatever race.

The point is, that some things are not going to be desensitized anytime in the near future. Why? Because they are simply hurtful. They are an insult, it's like calling Little People the M-word. Some things you just do NOT do.

Now I understand that she has apologized publicly for her use of the N-word, but does that mean all is forgiven? Kramer from Seinfeld didn't get this much sympathy after spouting the word hundreds of times in front of an African American man while he was on stage. In fact, how often have you heard of him since Seinfeld's demise? Little to none, except for the fact that he's that 'racist guy.'

So should we show Dr. Laura sympathy? I mean she did apologize, and she was simply trying to make a philosophical point. All is well that ends well, right? I think not.

She has, however, lost several of her shows sponsors, but that's not keeping Dr. Laura away. She still has her website, podcasts, YouTube, and books to promote. In the end, though, does it make it right that the good doctor told an African American caller that she was too hypersensitive because her Caucasian husbands' friends made snood racial comments in their home?

No. It means her husband her sh***y friends that should learn respect in the comfort of a home and in public.
