Dr. Phil Interviews Ted Williams Homeless Ex-Disc Jockey and His Family ~ Part 2
Dr. Phil Will Be Coaching This Man to Stay on the Straight and Narrow
The program opened with the report that police were called to his hotel room because of an altercation with his daughter. She reported that he swung at her and punched her in the jaw and pulled her hair. He had scratches on his face and no charges have been filed in this matter.
Dr. Phil spent a few days with Ted Williams coaching him and this show deals with the relationship between him and his family. He admitted that he did fall off the wagon about a year ago with alcohol but it was different this time; it did not lead him to use crack, like the times before.
Dr. Phil did say that his recollections were a bit cloudy and contradictory. He agreed to go to 90 meetings in 90 days.
Ted was reunited with his wife Patti who he left with their two children and her two kids by prior relationship. Patti is a nice kind hearted woman and is partially blind. She received public assistance and food stamps during his absence. The groupies involved in his life as a disk jockey fed his ego and he left her for another woman. She would like to see his children and grandchildren.
Ted was asked to leave the room while Dr. Phil met the rest of his family. Phil went on to say that he knew how much hurt they had and he wanted them to tell him how they feel and not to keep it inside. He hugged and kissed them all amidst tears. Ted thanked them for holding out hope for him and he is so sorry for what he put them through.
His daughter Janey admitted that she has lots of mixed feelings but she loves him and wants him in her children's lives. She told him that she just wants him, not money, but his presence in her life. He promised her that he was going to shed anything that would bring him and them apart. Tricia wants him to keep God in his life. He would like his children to attend meetings with him. They would not see him for days on end and went looking for him, while he medicated his feelings with drugs and alcohol. Crack was his life, he lived to smoke. Phil asked them if they knew his current girlfriend. All agreed that she is someone he needs to break away from because she is a part of his addiction. Phil told him that his loyalties are his most important project and not to jeopardize this due to a toxic relationship with someone who could bring him back to the life he was living.
Dr. Phil advised him to get his life in order. To get up each day and go to work, to get an I.D. and to make amends with his family. After all he has put them through; they are willing to forgive him.
Dr. Phil did admonish his son and daughter for ordering Grey Goose vodka in the hotel the night before while Ted was there. This set him up for failure and that is something they should not do again.
Tomorrow they will delve into what happened when the police were called to the hotel about an altercation and the truth will come out and it just may hurt everyone.

Post a CommentInviting his kids to go to meetings with him is a BAD idea and proves he knows nothing about 12-step programs. Also, this guy needs at LEAST a 28-day stay in a rehab, and a year and then a stint in a halfway house would be better. Knowing what I do, if he doesn't go away, he will relapse. This case really, really bothers me.
Good reporting.
I've been following his progress.
Good reporting about Mr. Williams' life and battle for restorative and positive change in his life~
What a story. I agree with Sandy. I don't think therapy should be done on national TV.
Once one is downhill, it is tough to stop the slide and mend. Then the slow, unsteady steps back to ground level. Not easy for Ted Williams for sure, but he has to be a role model and not let down his family again. Nice reporting, Diane - siva
Great one!
