Dr. Seuss Bit Me

Bailey Black
I want to write beautiful, meaningful prose
And tales that amuse and explore
I want to write articles like unto those
That I published quite proudly before

So I start with a thought, an idea, a line
And I let my mind flow as it may
I let the seeds sprout and mature over time
'Till I can no longer keep them at bay

But my brain is rebelling and it will not desist
Making rhymes that are silly and foolish
No matter how hard I may try and resist
It all just comes out Dr. Seuss-ish

I'm not a good poet, 'nor do I wish to be
But something is wrong with my head
I try to write works to the highest degree
But I get goofy quatrains instead

So I'd like to say sorry to those who keep up
To my writing, and for what it's worth
I hope that some day I'll be able to stop
Penning rhymes and return back to Earth

Oh, please don't stop, Bailey! Please keep up your "goofy quatrains"! You have a real feel for meter & rhyme & topping of funny! Who better to emulate than the master of creative silliness & good sentiment than our beloved Dr Seuss?! Besides, you have a little kid. It's inevitable! Oh, ok, I get that you long to pursue the soul-shaking prose... sure, sure. But you have a handle on this stuff & it's fun! So even if you write the ... uh... Great Canadian Novel, I hope you'll still play in this giggly garden sometimes! ; )
