You may soon be taking a trip back in time when you visit your local Kohl's.

The current Kohl's Cares for Kids Program promotion is themed toward four of Dr. Seuss's stories with books and plush animals. These items are being sold exclusively at Kohl's and are designed to allow you to travel back in time when you were a kid and share your love of Dr. Seuss with your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all of your other loved ones.

"Horton Hatches the Egg", a book first copyrighted in 1940 by Random House Publishers, is being sold at the department store. The 54 page hardcover book, written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss, is a perfect gift for children ages 2 to 7 and those young at heart. According to CNN, the story of Horton was meant as a parable to post-war relations between the United States, Japan and the Soviet Union. Read about Horton who loyally sits on lazy bird Mayzie's egg through winter and spring and have fun while learning about patience and loyalty.

Don't forget to purchase the "Horton Hatches the Egg" plush with Horton the Elephant, a fuzzy plush with posable trunk, big floppy ears, a loving personality, and cuddly design. He sits 12 ½ inches tall, is made of polyester, and can be spot cleaned.

Along with Horton, Kohl's is selling "Yertle the Turtle and other Stories", a book first copyrighted in 1963 by Random House Publishers and it was written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss. The 74 page hardcover book tells a story of an egotistical turtle, an envious bird, and an over competitive bear and rabbit. In addition to the "Yertle the Turtle" story, the book features the stories "Gertrude McFuzz" and "The Big Brag". All of these stories teach lessons in humility for kids ages 4 to 8 and those young at heart. According to CNN, Yertle the Turtle actually pokes fun of those who want to rule the world and it is believed is themed after Adolf Hitler.
Along with the book, there is a "Yertle the Turtle" plush, a turtle sitting 18 ½ inches tall with a snuggly-soft blue shell, a tuft of hair on top of his head, and cuddly.
He is made out of polyester and can be spot cleaned.

The "Fox in Socks" tongue-twister book with Fox and Mr. Knox feature tongue-twister games like "tweetle beetle puddle paddle battle". The 61-page hardcover book, copyrighted in 1993 by Random House Publishers, is designed for children ages 4 to 8 and those young at heart. The book was written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss.

In addition to the book, there is a "Fox in Socks" plush, a 19 ½ inch plush with a fuzzy red body capped with soft, blue socks on all four paws, and has a superplush design. He is made of polyester and can be spot cleaned.

Last but certainly not least is Dr. Seuss' "Hop on Pop", a book with simple rhymes and one-syllable words designed to help children read. It is designed for babies to preschoolers and those young at heart. The book was originally copyrighted in 1963 by Random House Publishers and this hardcover version has 64 pages and was written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss.

Additionally, there is a "Hop on Pop" plush which is a cuddly-soft bear with fuzzy fur, bright white eyes, and snuggly design. It is 16 ½ inches in height and is made of polyester and can be spot cleaned.

Merchandise can be found on metal fixtures near the main checkout areas and is available for a limited time only. Signs on the fixtures indicate which stuffed animals go along with the books so that you can buy the perfect combination or all three combinations.

100 percent of net profits from all Kohl's Care for Kids Program merchandise are donated to support health and educational opportunities for kids.
Each item is only $5 and these can be purchased in Kohl's stores or on the Kohl's Web site. The department store chain on Jan. 5, 2008 had 929 stores in 47 states and can be found as an anchor store to community shopping malls, strip shopping centers, and stand-alone locations.

I'm an K4-8 Music teacher and was very disappointed today to find that all the stuffed "Hortons" are gone, gone, gone. I could certainly have used him best of the 4 for many lessons.
Please keep up your good work.
