Draft Dick Cheney for 2012

Mark Whittington
A group of people believe that they have hit upon the solution to what ails the United States. So, duly, they have set up a web site to Draft Dick Cheney for 2012. The main problem of this scheme is that Dick Cheney does not wish to be drafted.

Mind, the idea of a Dick Cheney for President Campaign starting a couple of years from now is a delicious one to contemplate. The Left has vilified Dick Cheney for years as the "evil genius" behind the Bush administration, manipulating things behind the scenes, starting wars, violating civil liberties on a mass scale, and generally not being a nice guy.

In fact the meme of "Darth Cheney", depicting the former Vice President as the evil villain from Star Wars, has been spread far and wide. Some have jokingly suggested that should Dick Cheney be elected President, his arrival should be announced not by Hail to the Chief, but rather by the Imperial March from The Empire Strikes Back.

One wonders how Dick Cheney became a cartoon super villain. Dick Cheney comes across as calm, serious, and with a dry sense of humor that can be devastating. Cheney gives the air of someone who is not going to be overly sentimental, not engage in wishful thinking, and certainly not show weakness to any enemy of the United States, foreign or domestic.

In short, Dick Cheney is as far from being Barack Obama as another human being can be, much to his credit.

Of course there is no evidence that Dick Cheney could cause someone to choke to death simply by clenching his fist and using dark side of the force Jedi powers. Of course such an ability would serve a person in good stead during budget negotiations. ("Madam Speaker, your of cooperation disturbs me.")

Some people might suggests that accusations of being a Dark Lord of the Sith would be a problem for a Dick Cheney Presidency. After four years of Obama in the White House, it might just prove to be a back handed advantage. Say what you will about Darth Vader. The star ships ran on time when he was in charge.

The problem is that Dick Cheney does not want to be President. While he does occasionally toss lightning bolts at the Obama administration for its fecklessness, Dick Cheney is content to rest on his laurels of decades of public service. No amount of cajoling is likely to change his mind.

Still, the threat to put Dick Cheney in play might prove useful, if only to get the lunatic left to swallow the idea of President Sarah Palin easier.

Please draft him. The 2012 GOP ticket couldn't get any more laughable.

Interesting. I don't think Dick's health would let him be president for very long. Maybe Sarah could be his VP? Nice thought.
