Dragon Age: Origins Easter Eggs List

Bioware's Dragon Age: Origins was a hit RPG with a lot of fun easter eggs littered throughout the game. The following is a list of many of the better easter eggs in the game. WARNING: Descriptions below may contain spoilers.

The Sword in the Stone / Monty Python

There is a random encounter that has your group meet a group of citizens that believe the person that pulls an axe out of a tree stump should be their next King. This is a clear parody of The Sword in the Stone (Wikipedia Entry). However, atleast one commenter suggests there could be some references to a scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail too.

While the Monty Python reference above is a little questionable, this was is far more clear. In the video above, you'll want to fast forward to about the 50 second point. The ghost asks what a lark can carry but a man cannot. One of the answers you can choose is "a coconut."

Zombie Kittens

Another random encounter can have you meet a group of Zombie Kittens. This is an in-game reference to a joke on Bioware message forums.

As discussed in an old post, "The game development process is long and difficult one. Most features implemented take time, time that must be taken away from other potential features. But often times fans on the official forum don't appreciate this. They'll casually claim that their idea would be easy to implement. David Gaider, lead writer on the project, has a saying: "every time a forum member says this, somewhere a small kitten gets punted through a plate glass window.". Thus, the thread on zombie kittens began.

Superman

In another random encounter, you meet an older couple that finds a healthy young baby boy in a smoking crater in the ground. This is a pretty clear reference to Jonathan and Martha Kent finding a young Superman in a similar meteor crash.

Mass Effect

There are several more minor Mass Effect easter eggs in the game, but the clear winner is the above codex entry. It references the awful elevator rides in Mass Effect 1.

Dr. Seuss

There is another great codex entry poem describing "mush" and "nugs". It begins, "Do you like fried mush and nug? I do not like them Mister Klug. I do not like fried mush and nug." Sound familiar? It's a clear parody of Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. Not convinced? The poem's author is "Paragon Seuss."

Portal

At the end of the game, when you talk to Sten, he complains that the "The Cake is a Lie". A clear reference to the video game Portal.

The Princess Bride

Fast forward to about 4:10 in the video above. Shale says his goodbyes and says, "Have fun storming the castle." A clear reference to the Billy Crystal line in The Princess Bride (Video).
