The 25th anniversary of Dragon*Con, the annual fantasy and science fiction convention, has just wrapped up this past weekend. What first had just a few hundred people gathering together, now has over 40,000 attendees sprawling across multiple downtown hotels.
We have several Dragon*Con pictures that show you a bit about the convention, highlighting some of the cooler costumes and people you could have seen over the weekend.
Dragon Con started over 20 years ago in 1987, with an exclusive focus on sci-fi/fantasy literature, along with D&D table top gaming. Now, after 25 years, they have sections on anime, comic books, live concerts, video gaming, TV shows, and much more. Those who have attended since the first convention have said the growth over the years has just been amazing.
Dragon Con 2011 had people coming from all over the country, for all different genres. People mostly consider it a giant geek fest, but there are attendees from all walks of life and all sorts of different backgrounds.
Dragon Con also had an annual Saturday morning parade, which had started ten years ago. Hundreds of attendees in all kinds of costumes (super heroes and beyond) took a short parade route along Peachtree Street. No longer just a bunch of people gathering to talk about books and D&D, Dragon*Con is a unique experience shared among 40,000 possible new friends.
