This Labor Day Weekend, September 4-7, DragonCon, one of the largest Science Fiction and popular arts conventions in the world, will invade Atlanta with excitement, color, noise, and entertainment once again!

For four days, you have the opportunity to take part in non-stop action and fun, as over 30,000 people from all over the globe come together for an experience like no other. And DragonCon is not just for geeks...people of all ages, walks of life, and a myriad of interests all find something to love at this unique event.

What can you do at DragonCon?

Of course, there's the parade: huge, colorful, crazy, and everything you ever imagined a parade could be.

Then, just the people-watching alone makes the event worthwhile, with every kind of colorful costume and the opportunity to spot a star or literary celebrity around any corner.

But DragonCon also offers over 400 guest speakers and countless panel discussions, workshops, readings, and autograph sessions.

And it's not just amazing stars of stage and screen like William Shatner,Patrick Stewart and Leonard Nimoy, three of this year's very special guests, or the other guests from Star Wars, Torchwood, Mythbusters, and many other favorite television shows and movies.

If your taste runs more to hard science, you will be enthralled by the singing Tesla coils and fascinated and informed by talks by experts from NASA and SETI. If you lean to the supernatural, you will never want to leave the huge paranormal track with guests such as Jason, Grant, Steve, Tango, and Joe from the Ghost Hunters. There are literary stars like Charlaine Harris, inspiration for the hit television series True Blood and Gene Wolfe, legend of the science-fiction genre, and legendary movie directors such as George Romero and Terry Gilliam, just to sample a few.

In addition to the guests, DragonCon sports an outstanding art exhibit and an enormous dealer room, packed with merchandise you will not find anywhere else. The charity auction, which this year benefits the Georgia Chapter of the American Alzheimer's Association, gives you a chance to buy one of a kind art and other objects and give to a worthy cause. The annual blood drive, honoring Robert A. Heinlein, is another chance to give back at the convention.

At night, music takes over, with late night concerts from a wide range of musical styles. Drama is represented as well, with performances by the Atlanta Radio Theatre and The Rocky Horror Pictures Show.

Add to this hundreds of comic book artists, the short film festival, gaming, outstanding chldren's programming, thousands of costumes, and huge amounts of the unexpected, and you have an event that is bound to astonish, amuse and entertain you, no matter what your area of interest may be.

You can always do what I've always done, and work staff:) If you get in a track you enjoy, it's a great way to experience the Con.

2009 as the first DragonCon I attended. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford registration - until then, it'll be the parades for me (which are awesome!)
