Drama Queen

Jennifer Wright

She cries herself to sleep at night,

my little drama queen.

She sits up on her throne,

eating golden grilled cheese.

She pounds her care bear covered goblet.

Her words for "I want more."

Mommy doesn't move fast enough,

she promptly sheds a tear.

Her fits of anger can be fierce

and her court can only watch, in fear.

Little feet with tiny toes

start to kick and pound.

Crying comes from deep within,

sometimes a frightening sound.

That lovely cherub face

becomes a blotchy color pink

Tears now flowing freely

running down her cheeks.

Here comes the goblet,

through the air, by standers get down.

Oh no, the golden grilled cheese.

She smears it ruthlessly on her crown.

Someone from the court had filled the goblet up

A moment of silence it seemed to bring

But only a moment

For my little drama queen.
