Dramatic Demonstrations at Notre Dame; Pro-life Zealots Oppose Barack Obama!

John Lake
As if there weren't enough polarization in the modern world, now this. President Barack Obama, who has been changing the world at an alarming rate, is to speak at a commencement ceremony at The renowned Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana, this Sunday, May 17. But Notre Dame is a Catholic University, and Barack Obama is in fact pro-choice, pro-abortion. In view of our knowledge of our Presidents life, his marriage, and his two lovely daughters, we might suspect that he may harbor some ambivalence on the abortion issue - but technically, he is pro-choice.

A number of Catholic Bishops have publicly criticized the invitation to Obama. Some 360,000 people have petitioned to have him un-invited. At this writing, demonstrations are taking place on the Notre Dame campus; we are shaken to see coverage of an elderly Catholic priest being subdued and arrested, pleading for an end to the killing. Many see abortion as the deprivation of a new human being of life.

But when abortion was illegal, 70,000 women died every year as a result of "backstreet abortion". Movies were made with dark and foreboding footage of women, in rooms, on kitchen tables, their babies being aborted, sometimes unsuccessfully, with outpouring of blood and gore, followed by an untimely death.

The Catholics make a good point, though. Some years ago I formed this opinion, and penned these words:

"A baby in the womb has it all going for him: He's going to have a LIFE! He's going to know what a Mommy is, going to SEE THE WORLD, going to a high school prom, a college graduation. He's going to drive in the fast lane, vacation in Europe...all this, in the palm of his hand! Then his mother says "maybe I'll terminate.." Suppose it was you. WAIT! WAIT A MINUTE!!! From the moment of conception, its not just a baby, it's a unique individual, with a life !
