Dream Herb is legal just about everywhere, unless it's used for human consumption, in which case it becomes an illegal substance in some places such as Louisiana. Although Dream Herb isn't a well studied plant, and the effects haven't been documented much, many people are aware of it's uses.
The plant can be used in many different ways such as an ingredient in tea, the foliage rolled into a cigarette, and also as an incense if lit. It's been used for thousands of years by Indians, such as the Chontal, as a mild psychoactive to help them become more in touch with God, and to clarify the senses.
Dream Herb is commonly used now-a-days for a sleeping aide. To help bring about more vivid (and sometimes lucid) dreams to individuals. If awake for longer than expected after ingestion, the plant tends to create mild auditory and visual hallucinations for the user.
Calea Zacatechichi is a very bitter plant and causes a sense of nausea when drank. Smoking the herb doesn't seem to have the same nauseating affect as drinking. The nauseating effect of drinking the herb in tea form can be calmed with many mainstream remedies such as Akla Seltzer. It can also be calmed using an old wives tale, drinking a small glass of Coca-Cola.
The plant is a southern plant (from southern Mexico to northern Costa Rica) that is very difficult to cultivate from seedlings. Cloning the plant proves to be more simplistic and having a garden of Calea Zacatechichi from cloned plants can be a very easy and rewarding garden, after the initial upbringing of the first plant from seeds.
Some people relate it to a more mild Cannabis experience, though more psychoactive. Reports include a sense of well being, relaxation, events are more difficult to bring to mind, and of course, drowsiness. There are no reports of side effects after ingestion of the plant, nor of hangover. Dream Herb is used as a medicinal agent to fight against gastrointestinal disorders, to stop dysentery, as a fever-reducing medicine, and as an appetizer.
Although Calea Zacatechichi is known for it's psychoactive properties, there may be two completely separate types of the same plant. One which is hallucinogenic, and the other, which is not. These reports are not confirmed, but as attention grows for this "Dream Herb", will it just become another "unscheduled" drug that makes headway to becoming illegal? Reminiscent much of how Salvia Divinorum's fate is being shown.
