Dream Lover

Janis I. Monroe
I lay here on the cool grass. . .
Thinking of you
You're like a soothing whisper
In a warm summer breeze

Like fire next to flesh
I feel your intensity
As you caress me with your gentleness
The very way you speak to me is so relaxing
Like the steady fall of a gentle rain

Completely relaxed, I wonder . . .
"When will you come to me?"
"When will we meet, in reality, for the first time?"

Now, as the sun warms my very soul with its golden rays . . .
I realize, that someday . . .
Someday, when destiny takes a hand
I will look into your caring eyes
And run my fingers through your soft and shiny hair
I'll do this, while you embrace me for the first time in reality

Though we have dreamed together for many nights
When we wake, it seems as though "we" never were
All that exists now are our memories of the night
And those feelings of love and compassion
Which we hold for each other in our hearts
Oh! To feel your flesh against mine
And never to be alone again . . .
What I wouldn't give to have you here with me
My friend
My lover
My destiny
