Dreamgirls based on a broadway musical, three african american female singers hitting the pop charts in the 1960's. The name of the trio are called The Dreamettes. The cast of Dreamgirls is Curtis Taylor Jr, played by Jamie Foxx, Deena Jones, played by Beyonce Knowles, James Thunder Early, played by Eddie Murphy, Marty Madison, played by Danny Glover, Lorrell Robinson, played by Anika Noni Rose, Effie Melody Morris, played by Jennifer Hudson and many more.

The Dreamettes competed in a talent show in Detroit Theater, their is where they were discovered at the talent show by ambitious manager Curtis Taylor, (Jamie Foxx). Curtis offers them the opportunity of a lifetime, to become the back-up singers for headliner James Thunder Early, (Eddie Murphy). Curtis takes over the girls sound, and look evenually giving them a shot in the spotlight as The Dreams.

That spotlight began to narrow in on Deena, (Beyonce Knowles), finallly pushing the less attractive Effie,(Jennifer Hudson), out of the group altogether. Though The Dreams became a big success the price of fame and forture may be higher than they ever expected. Curtis starts his own record label, which is called Rainbow Records. His first single don't do so well so by paying the right people Curtis manages to get his group now the Dreamettes again to the top of the Hot 100 and, back in headlining gig at the Apollo Theater.

The Dreamettes with a lighter sound and a more chic look attracted the white audience which was a good thing because it help with there success but not for long. The cost of fame was really high for them, as the years progress Effie ends up a single mother on welfare and Deena and the Dreamettes with rainbow records become music industry giants. But being so successful for each member creates a new problem and each try to escape their private traps, and attempt to find a way out. Deena is controlled totally by Curtis and she longs for freedom, and Lorrell is trapped in a dead-end affair with Jimmy Early whom she wants him to leave his wife for her. The soundtrack for the Dreamgirls movie will be hitting store on December 5, 2006 with score songs on it such as, Dreamgirls, Listen, One night only, I am changing, and When I first saw you.
