Dreamworks Over The Hedge Review

Megan Shannon

My daughter has been addicted to this movie from the very first time she watched it right after it came out on DVD. She is rather picky about the movies she likes but this was a HUGE hit on her list as well as my own.

Over The Hedge is about a family of critters that awake from hibernation to find a hedge that wasn't there before. Not sure what it is, or what is beyond it, they venture beyond the hedge only to find they do not like what is on the other side.

When realizing just what is over there, they want no part of it. They aren't sure what they will do for food and water, but as long as it doesn't involve going over the hedge, they believe they'll be fine.

That is until they meet RJ the raccoon that seems to be full of knowledge about the ways 'over the hedge.' RJ convinces the family of critters to let him help them gather food to fill their log, but they do not know his intentions of taking the food to Vincent the bear, who will kill him if he doesn't return him the food he owes.

Of course, after all the obstacles of getting the food, RJ takes off with it leaving the rest of the critters caught and on their way to be disposed of. After getting the food to Vincent, RJ realizes he's done the wrong thing and decides to save his friends, hoping they will accept his help.

Happy endings are the greatest part of children's movies and the fact that they're funny, cute and innocently entertaining. These days they seem to make more children's movies with parts that only the adults will understand and I think that's a good idea for the most part, only because it help the adult enjoy the movie if they don't usually watch children's movies.

As far as this movie goes, I say it's at the top of my list. It was produced and directed very well to entertain the children as well as the rest of the family.

I highly recommend this movie as I'm sure your child will love all the little critters as well as the story itself.

You can purchase this movie just about anywhere, including at Wal-Mart for $19.98 and I'm sure there are some places you can get it for less. This would be a good movie to add to your child's collection and be prepared to watch it a million times if they like it!
