Dress Up as a Present for Halloween: A Clever, Fun Halloween Costume

Be a Present This Halloween

Susan Sosbe
Let's face it: There's enough in today's world to make even the happiest person a little depressed. Why not choose a Halloween costume idea that is sure to make everyone smile? Dress up as a present!

What makes this Halloween costume even better is that it is simple to do, cheap to make and most people already have many of the supplies on hand.

It can also be very versatile. You can make it as fancy or fun as you like. Go as a wedding present for a more formal look or go as a birthday present or a Christmas present for a fun look.

Here's what you'll need:

A large box
Wrapping paper (enough to cover the box)
Ribbon (optional)
Packing tape
Large Bow
Box knife
Permanent marker
String

To put your Halloween costume together, cut the flaps off one side of the box using the box knife. This will be the bottom. Cut a hole in the top large enough to fit a head through. You'll also need to cut a hole on each side of the box for the arms to go through.

Next, wrap the box up with the wrapping paper like you would a normal present. If you wrapped over the holes, you'll have to cut those out again. You can dress up your costume even more by adding a ribbon around it.

Now it's time for the finishing touches to your Halloween costume. Make a gift tag out of scrap cardboard or thick paper. You can write a clever message with the permanent marker on the tag, such as "Do not open 'til Christmas" if you're going as a Christmas present, or simply write "To: You From: Me". It's up to you.

When your tag is complete, punch a hole in it and attach it to the string or ribbon. Then, attach the string to the box so it hangs off the side of the present costume.

For the final touch, place the large bow on top of your head.

You can wear whatever you wish underneath the costume. A plain sweat suit would work for little trick or treaters who want to stay warm. Or for women who would like to sex it up a bit, wear thigh high stockings underneath.

The possibilities for this costume are limited only by your own imagination. Get creative and have fun with your present Halloween costume. You'll be sure to make a lot of people smile when you gift them with your presents...I mean, presence.
