Dressing Up for the Holidays

Finding the perfect holiday dress may be the last thing on your list of things to do to get ready for Christmas. You may be considering pulling out your all purpose special occasion dress out of the closet. Give yourself a break. If you're like most women the opportunity to dress sexy and sassy comes only a few times a year. Put aside some time and a little money and find a holiday dress that will put you in a truly festive spirit.

The Little Black Dress

The little black dress never really goes out of style. Still even if you have one in the back of your closet it can never hurt to have more than one. Styles change even with the little black dress. If you do not have a simple black dress now is the time to discover its versatility. You can dress up a little black dress with some of the new statement necklaces or tone it down with bright colored, but not metallic jacket. A jacket made of a sparkly material; is exactly the kind of jacket that will make your little black dress a holiday little black dress.

If you are really on a tight budget and want to wear the little black dress for Valentine's Day choose one in a light fabric. You can always dress up or down a basic black sleeveless dress with jackets and shawls.

Strapless

Strapless dresses always say swank and show off our necklines. Most women are self conscious about their arms, but again small jackets and shawls make it possible for most of us to pull off strapless dresses. A red strapless dress with some dramatic green or black gemstones will make a real statement at any holiday get together. Again with some much attention to your neckline; you really can't overdo the jewelry at least not on your neck or wrist.

If you want to wear the dress another season you could go with a shade of blue. Blue tends to be acceptable every season, a little like black. Plums and purples are still in this season . Red is supposed to be a hot color for spring. A red holiday strapless dress may serve you into the next party season as well.

It may be more of a romantic look to match your strapless dress with a light shawl made of a sheer fabric. To heat up the romantic look with a strapless dress; a simple gold pendent can appear to be more feminine than a chucky statement necklace. It all depends on the look you are going for bold and outspoken or sweet and shy. Stud earrings are best for all strapless dresses as they do not detract from the neckline you are trying to show off.

There are other ways to go besides dresses. I would never recommend dress pants as there are just a few times a year every girl young or old needs to show off her feminine side. Still a longer black skirt cinched at the waist with a gem stone studded belt can be worn with the right shimmering holiday top. A black skirt like the little black dress is a wardrobe essential. You can dress it up or down with the right accessories. If you choose a lighter weight fabric the skirt can be worn more than one season. You can put it with a white blouse and cardigan and wear it to work.

You can wear a jeweled belt and some strappy shoes with it and wear it to a holiday party. To dress up the black skirt, wear a sheer fabric shirt or one with glitter or rhinestones. Show as much cleavage as you deem tasteful and wear a festive shawl with it. Again it is the accessories that will make the not so little black skirt work for you.
