Season 3 of VH1's "Basketball Wives" reveals that men are now getting in on the drink-throwing craze. No longer has this feisty activity been limited to catty young women fighting over hair weave and mindless gossip. But as the Real Housewives, Bad Girls, and other reality show housemates levy full beverages at their enemies, audiences are privy to a few interesting characteristics of this behavior. Drink throwing has definitely become something of staple in reality TV. And if you plan on participating in this newfound reality sport, you might want to heed some of these informal rules.
Drink throwing is for the non-violent (sort of).
If you simply must make a point, and you're not keen on using your fists, simply toss a drink. The results are usually embarrassing enough to get your point across. Just be prepared in case your intended target decides to retaliate.
"Harmless" drink throwing typically involves clear liquids.
B-ball husband Eric Williams didn't exactly follow this rule when he tossed a fruity cocktail in the face of his ex-wife, Jennifer. But other drink-tossing episodes on earlier episodes of "Basketball Wives" (and other shows) usually involve water. There are no hard and fast rules where it regards what kind of beverage to use. But since cocktails aren't cheap, it would behoove the drink-tosser to conserve precious alcohol.
A thorough cursing out must precede all drink throwing.
Everyone knows that tossing a drink into the face of your nemesis requires a long string of expletives---the stronger and viler, the better. Indeed, if you're tossing a drink without a diatribe or "formal announcement" then you are doing your intended target a grand disservice.
Drinks must be tossed, not poured.
During an episode of "The Bad Girls Club" Season 7, Kate decides to humiliate housemate Annie by dumping an entire carafe of orange juice on her in a crowded nightclub. Unfortunately, the act didn't yield the desired effect. Annie wiped away the soggy mess and kept partying. Lesson learned? Always toss the drink instead of pouring it. The surprise "splash" is what makes the most impact.
Toss the drink, not the glass.
Unless you're really trying to do some physical damage, you should always remember to sling the drink, not the glass. But if you simply must throw the entire drink, cocktail glass and all---make sure that your aim is a little off. This is the best way to avoid assault and battery charges.
