Drinking Coffee Benefits Your Health

Why I Love Coffee!!

Heidi Adams
Many people around the world love coffee. There is nothing like the smell of a fresh brewed pot of coffee to heighten your senses and invite you in for a taste of it's warm, aromatic, goodness. The smell, taste, and the burst of caffeine have become a way of life in our modern culture. With a Starbucks of every corner it is easy to see that millions of us are hooked on java. Contrary to popular belief, coffee is not harmful and the positive effects of drinking coffee have been studied over the past decade rigorously. It has been proven that many health benefits can be linked to drinking coffee. These benefits include...

1. Coffee enhances mental performance and acuity. It has been proven that if you drink at least one cup of coffee before an exam or test, your performance will be increased because your mental acuity is enhanced by the caffeine. Caffeine enhances your memory skills and sharpens your mental focus.

2. Physical performance is enhanced by drinking coffee before a workout. It is proven that you will get much more out of your workouts if you drink a cup or two of coffee before hitting the gym. Some retailers have even developed pills for fitness gurus that mirror the effects of drinking coffee before a workout. Save yourself the money and just stick with the coffee. Caffeine increases endurance and muscle performance.

3. Coffee helps promote safer driving. Drinking two cups of coffee will instantly help overcome fatigue and will help with increased altertness and sleepiness. Accidents that are not alcohol related are usually sleep related. Drinking a couple cups of coffee will help fight off fatigue and will heighten your level of mental awareness behind the wheel.

4. Caffeine does contain antioxidants which are helpful in fighting disease.Coffee contains hundreds of compounds that might help research some of the most prevalent diseases of our time and is one of the most exciting discoveries of our time that proves the significant presence of antioxidants* within coffee beans. Caffeine is a stimulant so it should be used in moderation and a safe amount of coffee would be drinking two to four cups a day.

At the World Coffee Conference in London in 2001, Professor Peter Martin, Director of the Institute for Coffee Studies (ICS) confirmed that:

"[The] latest scientific evidence indicates that in moderation (2 - 4 cups per day) not only is coffee not bad for you, it may offer some health benefits".

I personally endorse drinking coffee for its many health benefits and for the simple pleasure that it provides to those who love it so much. The aroma is unforgettable and the taste can't be beaten. Coffee is not only a sensory adventure it is now proven to be a healthy addition to your lifestyle.
