Drinking Freely from the Well

A Poem

Etienne J. Sarfelli

Maybe he came to the well to drink

maybe he came to find comfort in the water.

And he drank freely

savoring the taste

savoring the sensations the water provided

He found himself all but consumed

He found that he had an unquenchable thirst

The more that he drank

the more he desired

He knew he would have to leave

he couldn't stay there

peering into the well forever

but he discovered he couldn't leave without one more taste

one more moment to feel the magic of the water

and then he would walk away

until the memory of the taste and sensations

forced him to return

to the well

to experience

something that he had never experienced

anywhere else.
