1. Bengies. Located in Baltimore, MD, this drive-in theater offers 3 movies for the price of one, and allows you to bring your own food for a small fee. Their food offering include chicken breast sandwiches, shrimp rolls, meatball sandwiches and pizza. The screen is the largest screen on the east coast.
2. Bel Air Drive-In. Located in Churchville, MD, they are open seasonally so call (410)734-7788 to get the schedule. It has been in operation since 1952.
3. Bumpers Drive-In Theater This one is located in Eldersburg, MD. In operation since 2001, this is one of the newest drive-in facilities in the country that was built from the ground up.
4. Hagerstown Drive-In Seasonally open. Located in Hagerstown, MD, this is another great place to cuddle in the backseat with the kids (or someone special) and a big tub of popcorn.
The greatest part about watching a movie from your car, is that you can make as much noise as you want, (within the confines of the car), talk to each other about parts of the movie, and be yourself without worrying about whether your are disturbing the other patrons. Your food is guaranteed to be more filling and less costly and you can take a lot more people for the price of about one and a half movie tickets. Definitely a better deal than the regular movies. One of the main changes is that you can now listen to the movie through your car stereo. This is a wonderful family experience. If you haven't tried it, do. I promise, it will be memorable.

Post a Commentyou people are awful. this was a poor article, making me extremely confused about how there was possibly a drive-in in eldersburg, my town, that i didn't know about. however, those comments are repulsive. a man tried to build a drive-in, it was tough, don't be so rude to the guy. he tried! but thanks for the comments clearing things up for me that bengies is indeed the only drive-in in maryland.
First off, the person who wrote this article needs to be told that BUMPER'S DRIVE-IN NEVER OPENED!!! (Where did she do her research??) Bumper's has been in the "planning" stages for over 8yrs now. (Some plan!!) I first heard of this project in February 2001. (Gee, we still had the World Trade Center back then...)Alan Ackerman formed a company called American Family Entertainment or AFE. The web site for that company is dead. The web site for Bumper's has BEEN dead for several years now. The email address is dead. Mr. Ackerman tried to have a stupid "portable" drive-in in various locations for several years. It kept moving to different parts of Maryland, it was hard to know where it was going to be from year to year. Here's the kicker-the portable drive-in couldn't even operate when it was windy!! The screen would blow down, I guess. Finally, they tried to re-open the Hager Drive-in, managed to keep it open for all of 1 year. EVERYTHING ALAN ACKERMAN HAS TRIED HAS FAILED. I would be a b
Here it is straight-Bengies is now the ONLY operating Drive-in Theater in Maryland. It's the REAL DEAL!! The Bel-Air closed, Bumpers NEVER really opened and the Hager Drive-in managed to operate 1 season and then closed. Alan Ackerman and American Family Entertainment promised to build Bumpers first in Eldersburg, then Taneytown. EMPTY PROMISES! All he ever managed to do was operate a "portable" drive-in in various locations that closed during "high winds" It was hard to tell year to year what location they where going to operate! They moved 3 different times!! I had such high hopes, but after 8 years of promises and a web site that is dead now (www.bumpers-drivein.com) AFE and Bumpers Drive-in Theater WILL NEVER BE BUILT.
If you want to experience an honest to goodness Drive-in Theater experience, go to Bengies-it's the best!!!!
Well, I guess Bumpers Drive-in is dead in the water.
The web site hasn't been active for some time, even the Hager Drive-in that Alan Ackerman managed to breath some life into, even that's closed!!!!!! :-(
I'm tired of all the delays and promises! Some big talk! He was going to franchise Bumpers locations all over the country! (yea, RIGHT!!) Bumpers Drive-in WILL NEVER BE BUILT! FOR GOODNESS SAKE, IT'S BEEN PROMISED TO OPEN IN VARIOUS LOCATIONS FOR ALMOST 8 YEARS!!!!! (Since early 2001)
Even the web site for his company "American Family Entertainmant" (or AFE) isn't active anymore. I'm guessing his investors/partners pulled out and that sunk the project for good. (Gee, good business plan!) Even if he managed to revive his plans to build Bumpers, I wouldn't go there. At this rate, by the time it's built, I'll be retired! The way Alan Ackerman ran everything else, it would probably close down after 1 year.
ADVICE: GO TO BENGIES!!! THAT'S THE REAL DEAL!!
was googleing hager drive in. looks like it reopened but I don;t know when. http://movies.go.com/movietimes/theater?theaterId=10102&date=20080421
Look, anyone in Maryland looking to go to a drive-in theater, BENGIES is the only real game in town!
The Bel-Air has closed, and the Hager Drive-in on Route 60 outside Hagerstown may re-open. (Don't hold your breath...)
The Hager Drive-in is operated by AFE (American Family Entertainment)
That's the wonderful folks that promised us a Digital Drive-in first in Eldersburg then Taneytown, MD for the past 8 years!!!
Such big plans! AFE was going to franchise Bumper drive-ins all over the Country. (yeah, right!)
I wasted my time and gas driving all the way to Taneytown about 6 years ago, hoping to see some sign of construction...
NOTHING! I think AFE just gave up on opening a Digital Drive-in!
Year after year went by, after hopeful promises of zoning being approved, there is still NO BUMPERS!!
Even bumpers-drivein.com isn't a valid web site anymore.
That's when you know a project is dead in the water, when the web site is no longer operating...
The guy who founded AFE is the bigge
2007 not 2006 sorry
don't waste your time on hagerstown ..i live there and the person that owns the drive in also owned the theaters on the same property and he closed it down out of the blue with no notice at all in the later part of 2006
I remember when i first heard about the Drive-in that was supposed to be built in Eldersburg. I live in Eldersburg, and actually the site where the Drive-in was going is literally right across the street from my neighborhood. sadly its been almost 10 years since I've heard anything until today while surfing the web to find this article. I hope they do build Bumper's, it's sad they got shut down in Eldersburg though. ('course then again, we've been promised for about five years now that there would be a Double T Diner built in town.) I think I'm going to take my Fiancee to Bengie's this weekend as a suprise early Birthday gift. Now i read on Bengie's web site that they offer free admission to drivers of historic cars on Sundays, does that include shows after midnight sat.? If so, I'm brining my 84 Datsun 300ZX.
Yes - I have gone to the Bengies numerous times and it is a nice place to go for multiple movies / good concessions / great timing for movies and unbeatable prices. I live closer to Taney town and spent a day driving out to look for the location of a screen going up and saw nothing. Sad -- Sad and sad. I know that it would make a lot of money and get many customers from Md. and Pa. but oh well. Gotta make that drive across county lines to see what I gotta see......
