Driving in Boise, Idaho Can Be Dangerous to Your Health

Maggie Blake
Driving in Boise, Idaho really might be dangerous to your health. Although some people may find that statement offensive or even comical, it's really true. Driving in Boise, Idaho is dangerous every single day, no matter where in the city a person is driving. For those who are interested in knowing why Boise is a dangerous place to drive, read ahead for an explanation.

There are a lot of very young drivers on the road - Age requirements in Boise, Idaho for a driver's license are lower than many other places around the country. Kids can begin taking their driver's training course as young as 14 years old, because a driver need only be 15 years old to obtain their Idaho driver's license. Since kids as young as 14 who have a learning permit can be out practicing their driving skills as long as any licensed driver over a certain age rides with them, it is not uncommon to see very young kids behind the wheel of moving vehicles around Boise. Since a huge number of kids in Boise are legally licensed to drive right around the time of their 15th birthdays, it's easy to see why this extremely young group of drivers poses a danger to the rest of us on the road. I cannot count the times I have been cut off or nearly broadsided by a child behind the wheel of a car here in Boise. Additionally, it is extremely common to see young teens texting as they drive, which we all know is very dangerous.

It's not only the kids texting while they drive - It's disturbing enough to see kids texting while they drive around Boise, but it's nearly as common to see adults doing the same thing. Every time I am driving anywhere in Boise, I see at least one adult texting while they are driving. I have personally nearly been hit by a handful of those same adult texting drivers, who have a lot of trouble staying in their own lanes and stopping at red lights.

Boise drivers have a lot of trouble merging onto a freeway - Driving on the freeway in Boise can be exceptionally dangerous, particularly near the onramps. Drivers in Boise navigate their vehicles in such a way that makes one wonder whether any of them understand the concept of merging at all. Merging drivers do not appear to pay any attention to vehicles in the lane they must merge into, and accidents are often an inch away from occurring. Additionally, drivers rarely switch lanes to make room for merging vehicles, causing even more confusion and danger for those merging.

Drivers in Boise often appear to be paying no attention at all to what they are doing - Boise drivers seem to be oblivious to other vehicles in the lane next to them, and it is not uncommon at all to see drivers absentmindedly veer partially back and forth between lanes, even if the car in the lane next to them must swerve to avoid being hit!

If you plan to drive in the city of Boise, Idaho anytime soon, be sure to brush up on your defensive driving skills, as you'll need them here! Boise is a safe city in many respects, especially in relation to other areas of the country. But driving on the roads here can be, and often is, a scary ordeal.
