As a native Chicagoan or visitor to the Windy City, you will find Midway Airport to be a convenient alternative to Chicago O'Hare congestion. Located on the Southwest Side of town at IL 50 - Cicero Avenue and 55th Street, Midway Airport is a quick 20-minute drive to Chicago Loop during most times of the day. In most cases, you will take Cicero Avenue for the I-55 - Stevenson Expressway to access the Greater Chicagoland area from Midway Airport.

Driving Directions to Chicago Loop From Midway Airport

For the downtown Chicago Loop, you will take IL 50 - Cicero Avenue heading north and away from Midway Airport. Within the next two miles, you will approach the I-55-Stevenson Expressway exits on the Southwest Side of Chicago.

For the Loop, you will take I-55 North, which will be signed as "Chicago." Once on I-55, you will observe the Chicago skyline that is eight miles in the background. I-55 takes you directly into the South Loop neighborhood, where it ends at U.S. 41 - Lake Shore Drive. At this point, you can take Lake Shore Drive North and enter the Chicago Loop by turning left at Balbo Drive or exiting at Randolph Street - off The Drive.

Driving Directions to North Side Chicago From Midway Airport

For the North Side of Chicago, you will follow directions into Chicago Loop from Midway. This means that you will take IL 50 - Cicero Avenue north until merging onto the I-55 - Stevenson Expressway North ramp.

As you approach downtown from I-55, you can take either I-90/94 West or U.S. 41 North for Chicago's North Side. I-90/94 - Dan Ryan Expressway West will be signed as "Wisconsin" and transitions into The Kennedy Expressway as it tunnels beneath downtown and enters the North Side. You will take The Kennedy for North and Northwest Side neighborhoods at Logan Square, Avondale, Irving Park, and Jefferson Park. From I-55, you will take U.S. 41 - Lake Shore Drive North into lakefront communities at Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Uptown, Edgewater, and Rogers Park.

Driving Directions to South Side Chicago From Midway Airport

From Midway, you will take 55th Street - Garfield Boulevard heading east and deeper into the South Side. The addresses will be decreasing, as you head east on 55th - Garfield and away from Midway. At State Street and the I-90/94 - Dan Ryan Expressway, the addresses will begin to increase from 0, as you transition into E. Garfield Boulevard towards the Hyde Park neighborhood and the University of Chicago.

From west-to-east, you will find major South Side intersections at Pulaski Road, Kedzie Avenue, Western Avenue, Ashland Avenue, Halsted Street, I-90/94, King Drive, and Cottage Grove Avenue along Garfield Boulevard. The I-90/94 - Dan Ryan Expressway connection is especially important, as this road provides access to the Far South Side, Loop, and Indiana. Be advised that I-90/94 West represents geographic north, while I-90/94 East is actually geographic south.

Driving Directions to West Side Chicago From Midway Airport

IL 50 - Cicero Avenue forms a direct link between Midway Airport and Chicago's West Side. For the West Side, you will take IL 50 - Cicero Avenue heading north and away from Midway. After the I-55 exits, Cicero Avenue does enter the suburb of Cicero. For the West Side, you can still turn right at Cermak Road or Roosevelt Road, before Chicago's I-290 - Eisenhower Expressway interchange. From Cicero, I-290 is the main connection between Oak Park, the West Side, and Chicago Loop. North of The Eisenhower, you will approach major West Side intersections at Madison Street, Chicago Avenue, and North Avenue off IL 50 - Cicero Avenue.

Driving Directions to Chicago Suburbs From Midway Airport

For the suburbs, you will look to make a connection to the I-294 - Tri-State Tollway from Midway Airport. The 294 - Tri-State Tollway forms a belt around the Chicagoland area between Northbrook and the North Shore and South Holland and the South Suburbs. Important 294 interchanges are located at I-94, I-90, I-290, I-55, and I-80. For the North and West Suburbs, you can pick up I-294 North via The I-55 - Stevenson Expressway heading south from the Midway area. To access the Stevenson, you can either take IL 50 - Cicero Avenue north or 55th Street west into IL 171 north from Midway Airport. For the South Suburbs, you will take IL 50 - Cicero Avenue to the 294 exits in Alsip.
