As a local Chicagoan or visitor to the Windy City, you may prefer Midway Airport as a convenient alternative to the notoriously congested O'Hare International Airport. Located on the city's Southwest Side, Midway Airport fronts the intersection of IL 50 - Cicero Avenue and 55th Street. To access the area, it is likely that you will take the I-55 - Stevenson Expressway. The Stevenson forms a direct link between Chicago Loop, Midway, and the Southwest Suburbs.

Driving Directions to Midway Airport From Chicago Loop

For Midway Airport, you will take the I-55 - Stevenson Expressway from the Loop. I-55 tracks the southern fringes of downtown, and you can pick it up from either Lake Shore Drive or the I-90/94 - Dan Ryan Expressway. From Lake Shore Drive, you will take I-55 "St. Louis" heading south for Midway Airport. Within the Loop, most east-west streets provide direct access to I-90/94. At the I-90/94 interchanges, you will head east for I-55. After encircling downtown, you will merge into the right lanes for the I-55 South exit to St. Louis and Midway Airport.

From downtown, you will take The Stevenson south for seven miles, until IL 50 - Cicero Avenue. You will come off the expressway at Cicero and head south by turning left at the off ramp traffic lights. You will take Cicero Avenue for two miles directly into Midway Airport.

Driving Directions to Midway Airport From Chicago South Side and South Suburbs

From the South Side, you will cut directly across the city via 55th Street - Garfield Boulevard for Midway Airport. 55th Street makes a direct link between Midway and the University of Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. The 55th - Garfield exits are clearly marked off the I-90/94 - Dan Ryan Expressway with airplane emblems for Midway Airport. In Chicago, I-57, I-90, and I-94 all feed into The Dan Ryan.

Airport traffic from Burbank, Oak Lawn, and Oak Forest can take IL 50 - Cicero Avenue directly north for Midway Airport. Alternatively, Joliet, Bolingbrook, and Darien travelers will take I-55 North and exit at IL 50 South for Midway.

Driving Directions to Midway Airport From Chicago North Side and North Shore

From Chicago's North Side, you can take either the I-90/94 - Kennedy Expressway or U.S. 41 - Lake Shore Drive into Chicago Loop and the I-55 exits. The Kennedy follows a northwest alignment between O'Hare and downtown, while the eponymous U.S. 41 - Lake Shore Drive tracks the Lake Michigan shoreline. Immediately south of downtown, I-90/94 and U.S. 41 both link up with I-55. From there, you will take I-55 - Stevenson Expressway heading south for Midway Airport. From downtown, you will take The Stevenson south for seven miles, until the IL 50 - Cicero Avenue exits. You will take IL 50 - Cicero Avenue south for Midway.

From the North Shore suburbs, you might consider taking the I-294 - Tri-State Tollway as a Chicago bypass. The Tri-State forms a circumferential arc around the Windy City and is much less congested than the Kennedy Expressway. For Midway Airport, you will exit the Tri-State at I-55 North, before taking IL 50 - Cicero Avenue South.

Driving Directions to Midway Airport From Chicago West Side and West Suburbs

The I-88 - Reagan Tollway and I-290 - Eisenhower Expressway both form direct links between the West Suburbs and Chicago Loop. I-88 makes a direct connection into I-290 heading towards Chicago at the Hillside Strangler. From Hillside, 290 East meets up with IL 50 - Cicero Avenue on the West Side of Chicago. For Midway, you will take IL 50 - Cicero Avenue South. Again, Midway Airport is located at the intersection of IL 50 - Cicero Avenue and 55th Street - Garfield Avenue.
