Driving Lessons

A Limericked Load from Life on the Road

Linda Ann Nickerson
.

As I drive my fingernails into the dashboard,

riding along with teen drivers,

these lines spring to mind.

L.A.N.

.

My teenagers teach me a ton,

Particularly on the run.

They learn to drive,

Arrive alive

And love to have me ride shotgun.

.

Along the way, I have to say,

I learn to drive from them each day.

Like up the wall

And crazy, y'all

And true hard bargains on display.

.

But none can drive a wedge between

A parent and a growing teen.

Just hand those keys -

Now, if you please,

Along with green for gasoline.

.

Still, batty they may drive me yet,

For this may be a constant threat.

They drive me wild,

And make me riled;

These driving years I won't forget.

  • Driving with teenagers, who are learning to drive, can be a learning experience for a parent.
  • What might a mother or father learn by riding along with a student driver?
  • Where might such a journey take a parent? Trust me. It's a trip.

So true so true, I am reliving the experience of the days my own were learing to drive through my Grand daughter. It got better, guess it is because I am not the one trying to teach.
