Driving to Walt Disney World

What To Do If This Happens to You

Eve
So you are planning on going to Walt Disney World. How exciting! There is a lot that goes into planning a trip of this caliber. I recommend doing everything well in advance (at least 3 months) so that you can prepare for the worst. Remember the words of mom when she used to tell you "better to be safe than sorry." Speaking from personal experience I am going to help you do just that.

The first trip my husband and I took to Disney World was tumultuous to say the least. We decided to brave the open road and drive our SUV from Virginia to Florida with no hotel stops in between. I do not recommend you do this, but it does save money. Somehow we ended up in Florida safe, happy and healthy.

My smallest son was 2 years old at the time and he had finished his antibiotics from a nasty double ear infection. We decided to leave that night around the kids bed time which was about 8 p.m. we spent the day packing up the car, hired the neighbor to get the mail and watch the house. We got a feeding tablet for the fish and then we were off.

"Okay kids its bed time hop in the car." We tucked them into their car seats with pillows and blankets and packed a mini cooler full of drinks, snacks, sanwiches and energy drinks. This saved us money too because we could eliminate paying for fast food and gas station snacks which can add up quickly.

Driving through the night went well. My husband can sleep any time he wants so he had spent the day before the trip seeping and being lazy leaving all the fine, last minute packing details to me. As we approach South Carolina my little son said he was feeling sick. He was vomiting all ver himself before we had a chance to pull over. We stopped at every single rest area in South Carolina to clean him off, brush his teeth, change his clothes and scrub out his car seat.

I recommend keeping a small easy to grab bag in the easiest place possible to grab in case of an emergency packed with the following items:

1.plastic bags (small and large)

2.toothbrush and toothpaste

3.baby wipes

4. Wash clothes and hand towels and a body was and mini dish soap

5.extra clothes and under wear

6. Medications

7.bottle of water

8.paper towels

At this point I wanted to turn around and go home, but we had already come this far! Luckily everything was fine by the time we arrived in Georgia.

  • Be sure to plan ahead when driving to Walty Disney World
  • Pack easy to reach emergency item bag
  • Let the drivers take turns so they can rest
Organic milk is not something you should give a child on ear infection antibiotics. Putting him in the car for a long road trip, he is bound to get sick.
