DROID INCREDIBLE vs. BlackBerry Storm2

Which Smartphone on the Verizon Network is Best?

Josh Mason
With the advancement of cell phone technology picking the right phone is harder than ever. The recently released DROID INCREDIBLE on the Verizon network is one of the best Android operating system smartphones available, while the BlackBerry Storm2 from the same network is the only touch screen BlackBerry available. We compared both phones to help you determine which phone best fits your needs.

DROID INCREDIBLE by HTC

The DROID INCREDIBLE is the updated version of the previously popular DROID by Motorola. The new lineup of features as well the slick design will make this phone the envy of your friends and family. The INCREDIBLE runs on the 3G Verizon network and has Wi-Fi support.

Best features of the DROID INCREDIBLE

• 1 GHz Processor- The 1 GHz processor is extremely fast for a smartphone and makes it capable of multitasking very efficiently. The processor speed is nearly equivalent to the same 1 GHz atom processors found in many popular netbooks.

• 8MP Camera- The 8MP digital camera with video capture was our favorite feature on the DROID INCREDIBLE. The photo quality was good enough to replace a standalone point and shoot camera. We also liked the large 3.7" screen for viewing photos and video as it made it very easy for viewing.

• Voice-Enabled keyboard- The voice-enabled keyboard is the coolest features on the phone as it allows you to speak the message you want to send and the phone automatically types it. Did we mention you could also use the GPS on the phone with the voice-enabled feature? Simply say your destination and the phone will give you GPS directions, and if you are looking for a business, the phone displays a phone number as well an internet search.

• Excellent media player- The media player on the INCREDIBLE plays back unprotected AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, and MP3 files as well flash enabled videos.

• Internet browser- The HTLM browser supports Flash Lite 4.0, which allows you to access Flash enabled video content on the internet. Websites such as Hulu require flash to access their media, whereas the iPhone and BlackBerry Storm2 do not currently support Flash.

• Android Marketplace- The Android Marketplace is leaps and bounds superior to the BlackBerry App World because it features more useful applications and is much easier to navigate.

BlackBerry Storm2

The BlackBerry Storm2 is RIM's second attempt at a touch screen BlackBerry for the mass consumer market. The Storm2 is an excellent BlackBerry smartphone for business and personal use, but lacks some of the advanced features that the INCREDIBLE has. The Storm2 runs on Verizon's 3G network and has built in Wi-Fi.

Best features of the Storm2

• Touch Screen- Touch screen phones have been evolving substantially since the release of the original iPhone. The Storm2 uses SurePress technology, which makes it so you have to physically press down on the touch screen to select an application or to type. This technology makes for fewer typing errors and good balance between physical and virtual keyboards.

• Resolution- The 480X360 pixel is stunning to say the least, and provides excellent viewing for photos, video, and all sorts of media.

• Email client- We preferred the push email client on the Storm2 due to its simplicity and quick delivery from up to 10 different email accounts.

• Camera- The 3.2MP digital camera with auto focus and video capture takes decent pictures, but does not compare to the 8MP camera on the INCREDIBLE

Overall

Overall, we preferred the DROID INCREDIBLE as it offered a slimmer design, and many more fun and functionality features. We recommend the Storm2 for business related applications as the email and messaging client simple and easy to use, especially with the new BlackBerry 5.0 OS. However, the speech to text application on the INCREDIBLE makes sending messages much more convenient while on the go. The INCREDIBLE is a much better value for the money and has some of the most advanced features to date on a smartphone.
