Drop - Interactive Toy

Drop - interactive toy is a flash animation game created by Newgrounds.com producer nir matarasso (nir). The game's audio soundtrack, titled "Drop a 4 note Soundtrack" was created by the same individual under the name Cherly KaCherly. The album for the game is free to download and/or stream through Birdsong netlabel. The images of the game, including the air telescope, were adapted from the animation "Drop" which was also created by the same individual. This flash animation was submitted to Newgrounds.com on July 15, 2008 and achieved front page status on Newgrounds.com a year and a few months after the submission date.

Although listed as a game, players should understand that Drop - interactive toy is different from your typical flash animation game. Drop - interactive toy is more artistic than your average game in that it allows players to interact with the images and audio by clicking on buttons that appear throughout the game. As the game progresses, more buttons will appear that will increase user interactiveness. The images also develop with the game, creating a visually and aurally stimulating experience for players.

Players begin the game by clicking on the arrow at the bottom left of the screen. A note will then play and will repeat for a period of time throughout the game. The images will also change to reveal more buttons that you can press. The arrows will guide you to where you should click next in order to progress the game. For every click, a new sound is added, as well as a new image. Continue clicking to progress through the game until the end. Because the appearance of each sound depends on when you click on the next button, each time you replay the game you will end up with something different, even though all the sounds are the same individually. This adds to the game's replay value, as players can experiment with clicking on buttons at different time intervals to create different songs.

The game's images further add to the game's replay value. The images are so abstract that each time you play through the game, you may develop a different perspective on the images. You interpretation of the images may very well change because of the change in music that you are creating. Or you may spot something that you did not see the first time. Each replay is unique in that you gain a different take on the same individual elements.

This review will not score the game, as it does not quite fit with the criteria that other games are reviewed with. Drop - interactive toy is, however, highly recommended for anyone looking for something a little different. Don't expect too much gameplay, though. There is little to none to be found in this game. Instead, Drop - interactive toy offers an imaginative experience that most games are unable to provide.
