Birds don't mind being out in the rain
They hunt, they pluck
At the tender worm
Come to the surface from the sodden mud
They hop, they peck
In the blades of grass
Glistening wet with the drops of spring
The birds, the worms
And the grass and rain
Commune with the cycle of the waking earth
At one, at once
In the age-old dance
Life starts anew and drinks the drops of spring

Post a CommentPretty, I love spring rain
Very nice poem. thank you
Nice. ;o)
Back in the early 70s I used to go sometimes in the early morning to help a friend of mine with bird-banding for ornothology. We' go around the woods once setting up nets, then go around a second time, freeing birds caught in the nets after checking their legs for bands and recording the label for tracking migrations, etc., and taking each net down again when it was empty. Along the way he told me way too much information about bird biology for me to feel very sentimental about them for a long time after. But I love your images, especially with the rain. I used to sit on my aunts porch when I was little and just watch rain dripping down for a long time. I understood later when I read Taoist works about water meditation.
Nice work, Bat. I like this "age old dance". : )
Lovely :) Sheri
Very nice poem..the birdies are outside my window right now pecking at the sodden lawn.
I'm a fun old bird and I hate being out in the rain, I do mind it, and it's hardly fair to say I pluck at worms, horrible squirmy little things. Oh, you mean feathered birds? Did you write this on a rainy day?
A writer of many talents I see. How are you at haiku?
Ah, spring! Very nice.
