Drug Dealer Reports Selling Mark McGwire Drugs to Get Bigger and Stronger

A Convicted Dealer of Claims He Supplied Steroids to Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco

Ryan Christopher DeVault
Convicted drug dealer Curtis Wenzlaff told ESPN he supplied Mark McGwire with steroids. The steroids that Wenzlaff supplied McGwire and teammate Jose Canseco were not for health purposes either, according to Wenzlaff. This information came out in an interview that Curtis Wenzlaff did with ESPN's Outside the Lines, and will end up airing at 9:00 a.m. EST on ESPN this Sunday. Wenzlaff states in the interview that McGwire had a goal of getting bigger, faster, and stronger with his drug regiment, and that Wenzlaff had to laugh when he heard McGwire state that he was simply taking steroids to improve his health.

A report came out back in 2005 that linked Wenzlaff to McGwire (in the New York Daily News), and it stated that McGwire had at least five injections per week with a drug recipe that included testosterone cypionate, testosterone enanthate, and equipoise and winstrol. Don't get bogged down by the names of the drugs that McGwire was taking, but rather realize that this is a dealer stating that he helped provide Mark McGwire with anabolic steroids during his playing days. He went on to state that McGwire would have had his hand-eye coordination improved by these drugs, further contradicting what Mark McGwire has had to say on this issue numerous times.

Taking a step back, the bigger picture here is that we have a drug dealer and a drug addict that are arguing with each other about who was right. When the question comes up about whom fans should believe, it gets even more clouded. Which side of the equation has more credibility? Is it the drug dealer who sold the illegal drugs and went to jail for it? Or the baseball player who lied about using the drugs, and is still in denial about the benefits that it provided him during his career? If we took the names and the situation out of the question, and only moved forward with the arguments from both sides of this issue, it gets even harder to support Mark McGwire. He used illegal drugs, got caught, blamed baseball, and now wants to be in charge of teaching kids. Is there a problem here?
