Drug Detox for Employees

Recent researches show that more than 13 million American workers tested positive for drug or alcohol abuse. This is a serious problem that many employers should not ignore, as doing so may mean lowered productivity levels of employees in the workplace. It is recommended that employers find ways to help a substance dependent employee by finding a good drug detoxification centers for employees which could help the employee overcome the dependency. Studies also show that it is more economical to send a drug dependent employee to a detox center, rather than bear the cost of frequently replacing employees.

Detoxification Defined

Detoxification is defined as the process of cleansing of toxins that accumulate due to substance abuse. It is a necessary step towards overcoming drug addiction. Toxins that are deposited in the body due to drug abuse must be eliminated in order for the healing process to begin. If these toxins are not removed, chances of relapse will occur as cravings for the drug will occur even after drug use has been discontinued.

There are several drug detox centers for employees available which can help the employee get back on track again, and the choice depends on the kind of drug he is using, and how often he has been taking it.

Drug Detox Centers for Employees

As an employer, you can help your employee get into a healing program by helping him choose the right drug detox center where he can get himself admitted. There are three types of detox centers:

1. Drug-detox only centers provide supervision in the detoxification process but do not really offer therapy as other drug rehabilitation centers do.

2. Drug medication centers offer a program where medications are administered in order to avert certain withdrawal symptoms that your employee may encounter during the early detox stages.

3. Holistic detox centers encourage a more holistic approach in overcoming drug addiction. Their program includes therapy that is based on natural, sometimes spiritual concepts and does not encourage the use of medications. In order to support your employee through his drug detoxification process, you can choose a drug detox center that also provides after treatment consultations. There are several programs such as behavioral counseling, twelve-step programs and cognitive therapy which can help your employee overcome the habit and be more productive at work again.

You may contact a drug rehabilitation center that offers programs for employees with substance abuse and inquire about their program that can best address your employee's needs. It may be a difficult task for employers to help an employee with substance abuse, but doing so will provide more benefits in the long run, as the employee becomes more productive than before.
