Drug Education and Children: Home Vs. School

Denise
As young as elementary school, the teachers are required to teach them about drugs and the effects caused by them. The children learn about Stimulants which are uppers to speed up your nervous system. These stimulants are Caffeine, Tobacco, Crack, Ecstasy, Cocaine, Amphetamines, Anabolic Steroids, and Alkyl Nitrates. The Depressants are downers to slow down the nervous system. These depressants are Alcohol, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, solvents and Heroine. The Hallucinogens alters reality and distorts the world around those taking it. These drugs have been known to have frightening results. These drugs are LCD, Cannabis, and Magic Mushrooms. Many of these drugs have caused a hard addiction, run down appearance, inability to think rationally, and death.

It must be difficult learning about these dangerous items while their family members fell victim to it. All may seem innocent, but even the most used drugs have a terrible effect on people. For instance, smokers are clearly addicted and forced to continue. When something feels good no matter how bad it is for you it will be difficult to stop. Many people do not want to stop, because it relaxes them. It may do that for a while until coughing starts, breathing is labored or body runs down. We all hear that tobacco and nicotine can cause lung cancer. Moreover, it can also bring a person to the coronary ward in the hospital.

A man was on a machine in the hospital to help him breath, but he kept coughing. Later, the staff ran to his aid and closed the curtains. He died there in the hospital. The coffee drinkers are also hung up on the caffeine. Whenever they come to work and coffee is there it pleases them. Whenever someone dares to forget to make coffee they will swear. Some people have to have coffee on their desks all day long. In addition, the caffeine craze has spread to sodas like Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Coca Cola and possibly more. One guy in college used to drink those tall mega large cups of fountain Cola and he was absent one day.

I heard people talking about his recent trip to the doctors concerning problem with his heart. Needless to say, he started drinking water. Now all these things are a part of our normal life yet we bother to point out details. What good are details to tell you about drugs when we are already under its spell? Some of us find good in those warning, but the children must feel strange. I remember when they taught us about it in school, and some students mentioned about their parents disappointedly. There was a moment of silence and sadness that the teacher could not do much about. Drugs make your body act like this, but some are a way of life is the message they are receiving. Perhaps if someone is too hyper and receive a downer to calm them down or upper to speed up a terribly fatigued person in need.

However, these drugs are taken daily whether we need them or not. When a substance even the legal ones forces you to go back to it you are a slave paying the master chemical. This is sad when it comes to an independent person who answers to no one, but a chemical so low its beneath their feet. The worse thing about this is all the media stating the law catching illegal drug dealers and abusers on the street. It is done all in the name of saving lives, yet the legal ones can kill just as hard. The illegal drug dealers are probably not getting as much as the tobacco and alcohol companies in the least amount. The point is that both are dangerous when it can cause addictions. This is not a joke at all, it is our lives and the people we love. What can we do about it? Seek help, stay informed, pray, fight and keep sober in everything that you do.
