Drug Store Substitutes for Department Store Beauty Products

Lisa White ISSA & AFPA CPT
I love good makeup and beauty products as well as the next person but after having kids I've down graded in many aspects of my life to accommodate our current needs. On many previous occasions I have splurged on shampoos that were $20 or more but I've learned there are just as many drug store beauty brands that offer the same benefits as department or specialty store items. There are some items such as my facial wash that I refuse to give up while others have gone to the wayside. Unless I'm looking for something very specific I know there are several of my favorite brands sold in drug store versions that work just as well. Check out what these alternatives have to offer in lieu of their high end counter parts.

Eye Makeup Remover

At the end of the day it's important to wash away the day's grime with a gentle cleanser but your cleanser may not rid your skin of heavy eye makeup as well as you would like. Or worse, it can leave you with raccoon eyes. Lancome's Bi-Facil eye make up remover works well for excess eye make up but it's on the "higher priced" items list. If you're in need of an eye make up remover without the $26 price tag give Rimmel's Gentle Eye Makeup Remover a chance. It's an oil free product that removes regular and waterproof makeup for a quarter of the price.

Gold Eye Shadow

Nearly every eye shadow has a version of gold but this season it's a hot trend so you may be on the search for the shade that suits your skin tone. There are many variations of gold created by department store lines but Mac's $16 highly pigmented eye shadow in gorgeous gold is a popular choice. Though you love this color the same style and look is created with Revlon's Luxurious Color Perle in sparkling gold eye shadow . Revlon's color is only a third of the cost, is also highly pigmented and can double as a highlighting color for lipstick when needed.

Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo

Choosing a shampoo with argan oil may be very important to you but spending $35 or more on Moroccanoil's shampoo could be out of the question. Though you prefer the Moroccan oil's brand there is another alternative. Organix, a drug store brand, carries several types of shampoo in the line including the Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo which contains the specific oil and is under $9. The Moroccan argan oil is known to renew cell structure, restore shine and adds softness to dry or damaged hair.
