Drum on the Wall

Sight And/or Sound?

David A. Reinstein, LCSW

Hanging in silence
A stretched skin
Ornaments a wall
Making a visually
Non-percussive
Statement
More quietly than
A whisper
Bringing an image
To the eyes
And nothing at all
To the ears.

It seems unfair
That visually decorating
With sound
Remains
Such an illusive
Notion.
We can see the thing
Meant to make sound,
But not the sound
Itself.
We can hear sounds
And feel their
Vibrating being
But our vision
Remains
An abstract request
For seeing.

Sight and sound
All around
Not easily blocked
By fences;
Sight and sound
All abound
Until gathered in
By one or another
Of our senses.

...And all of our senses work in concert to give us an awareness of our surroundings. Diminish one, and all are diminished. Superb observations on the need for us all to pay closer attention to the world surrounding us. Thanks!

Indeed... In the final analysis, it may not be hope, but profits which spring eternal.

So they will publish poetry? This gives me hope. I don't know if they will publish my style of writing, though. I haven't tried anything yet, so we'll see. I usually get tons of notifications, but have only received a handful in the past few days.
