Dry Skin: Proper Care Gives Relief

Skin is the reflection of charm, beauty and youth. People love to have a glowing skin; a reflection of their personality. They hate perched or dull skin. People are always worried about Dry Skin, which is only the dullness and tightness of the skin and not an ailment. At some stage of life, every one is liable to have Dry Skin.

For some people, Dry Skin is hereditary. If not hereditary, it is the environmental conditions like extreme hot and cold that lead to Dry Skin. During these extreme conditions, it becomes hard to maintain the oily layer in the skin, which leads to Dry Skin. It is during the winter season that people are more prone to Dry Skin. The cold air outside and the hot air blowing inside the room may cause the skin to lose moisture. This can develop cracks and also peeling of the skin.

The sun can also make the skin dry. Though exposure to sunlight is good for the body, over exposure can make the skin Dry. A Diabetic person is liable to have Dry Skin as diabetes damages the small blood vessels and nerves under the skin, leading to dryness. Dry Skin is also seen in people who take regular long hot baths. Some strong soaps can also cause dryness of skin.

Well, it is said that women experience dryness of skin faster than men as the skin of the feminine gender has a tendency to dry up after menopause.

The best solution to Dry Skin is proper care only. If there are itching, lines, scaling, redness and feeling of dryness, then you have to look out. After a bath or swim, if there is a feeling of tightness in the skin, then watch out for Dry Skin. Once you experience similar problems, it is that you have Dry Skin and better you start caring your skin. If not given proper attention in the beginning, dryness can lead to cracks, which can cause infection. Dry Skin can also lead to Eczema, Cellulitis and Folliculitis.

Extreme weather conditions should be avoided. One should avoid washing frequently with hot water. Harsh soaps should be avoided and only use cleansing creams that suits the skin. After a bath, it is better that the water is soaked from the body and not rubbed off. Using moisturizers after a bath can help a great deal in preventing Dry Skin. Use moisturizers that contain Humectants and Emollients. Humectants attract water to the skin and Emollients act as lubricants. When going out, sunscreen cream/lotions and moisturizers should be used to protect from the Ultra Violet rays and to keep the skin hydrated.

Water helps in maintaining the glow of the skin as it keeps the skin always hydrated. Include more seeds, grains, fruits, nuts and vegetables in the diet.

In the market, one can come across numerous health care products that claim to have solutions to Dry skin. But it should be noted that there is hardly any permanent relief to Dry Skin. All the skin care products can only give some relief.
