Dubunking Barack Obama Birth Certificate Conspiracy Theorists

What's A "Birther"?

"Birthers" are people who believe that President Barack Obama wasn't born in the United States and thus is not a "natural born citizen" and not ineligible to be President. They have no evidence that he was born anywhere else but they usually choose Kenya as his mythical birthplace because his father was from Kenya.

I'm well aware that assuming his Obama was born in Kenya because that's where his father was from makes no sense. But that's the exactly assumption these intellectually challenged folks make. And for some reason they think they don't need to present any proof for this ridiculous assumption.

Barack Obama Was Born In Hawaii

President Obama's birth certificate is online for everyone in the world to see. His birth certificate clearly states that Obama was born on August 4, 1961 in the state of Hawaii. The birthers make a number of irrational arguments as to why this birth certificate is not legitimate despite the fact that the government of Hawaii has confirmed that it is indeed Obama's official birth certificate. I will debunk those arguments below.

Debunking Arguments Obama's Birth Certificate Is "Not Real"

1. "It's a certification of live birth, not a birth certificate."

They say this because the title of the document is "certification of live birth." It doesn't say "birth certificate" anywhere. Of course there's no merit to this argument because a quick search around the internet (or even a look at your own birth certificate) shows that the words "birth certificate" are often not found on official state certified birth certificates (in fact I couldn't find a state that includes those words on the document in my search.)

Simply put, if you were born in Hawaii and you get your birth certificate sent to you from the state, this is the document they send you. Saying it's not a "birth certificate" because it uses the phrase "cetification of live birth" instead is such a dumb argument that it hurts my mind to imagine someone actually thinking that it makes sense. "So dumb, it hurts."

2. "It's the short form birth certificate, where's the long form with all of the extra info?"

First of all, what extra information? What else do they want to know? The document that is online includes Obama's birthplace, the date of birth, and Obama's parents names. What else has any relevance? What else could be on there that would have anything to do with Obama's eligibility to be President (which is what this is supposedly about anyway?)

Secondly, this is the form you get when you ask Hawaii for your birth certificate. That's it. There's nothing else. There's no "long form" birth certificate that Obama is "hiding." It's nothing but a birther fantasy that has no basis in reality.

3. "There's no doctor's name, a birth certificate must have a doctor's name on it!"

Nope. I have no idea where they pulled this particular fantasy from. They must have just noticed that there's no place for a doctor's name on the certified Hawaii birth certificate that Obama posted and decided to run with that. There's just no truth to it. At all.

I wonder, how do birthers think Barack Obama got his passport if his birth certificate isn't legitimate? And I wonder why they think Hawaii is in the business of sending out illegitimate birth certificates? There's so many holes in their theory that it doesn't even begin to hold water.

4. "It doesn't have a footprint on it like mine does!"

One of the big confusions that people have is thinking that the "birth certificates" that people often get at hospitals are actually official documents. They are not. A certified birth certificate does not have a footprint on it.

So a lot of the birthers are clammoring for Obama to show his "real birth certificate" when Obama has already put it online. And what they think is a "real birth certificate" actually isn't anything more than a souvenir that is meant for scrapbooks and actually has no legal value (it can't be used to get a passport, for example.)

5. "It's photoshopped." / "It's a forgery."

You can photoshop just about anything these days but the State of Hawaii has confirmed that the birth certificate that Obama has put online is authentic on multiple occassions. And wouldn't it have been pretty obvious if he had put a forgery up? Why would he have risked doing creating a forgery? It just doesn't make any sense. It would have been obvious to too may people.

Obama Is The First President To Make His Birth Certificate Public

What makes the birther conspiracy theory even more absurd is that Barack Obama is actually the first President in US history to have made his birth certificate public. You could even argue that there's more public evidence of Obama's US birthplace than there has been for any President to date.

Birth Announcements In Two Hawaii Newspapers

While birth announcements are not legal evidence of Obama's birthplace, the fact that there were two birth announcements in local Hawaii newspapers a week after Obama was born would indicate to any rational human being that he was indeed born in Hawaii in 1961.

Sometimes birthers try to deal with these birth announcements by saying they were sent in by Obama's family as part of some scheme to create a "false paper trail."

This is a crazy line of "logic" of course, it just doesn't make any sense. And why on earth does Obama have to show such overwhelming evidence of his birthplace anyway? Why do the birthers assume (based on no evidence) that Obama was born in Kenya while ignoring the overwhelming evidence he was born in Hawaii? I won't go too deeply into the twisted mind of a birther here, but it's something to consider.

But actually, those birth announcements weren't sent in by the family at all. Some investigative reporting discovered that those newspapers simply printed what they received from the Department of Health Vital Statistics.

So yes, these birth announcements are actually extremely strong evidence that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii in on August 4, 1961. Those announcements coupled with the certified birth certificate that Obama has put online for everyone to see should be more than enough evidence of his birthplace.

I feel that anyone who is not satisfied with the ample evidence that has already been made available is siply not someone who is able to think in a rational manner, at least not on this subject. They hate President Obama for some reason or another and do not want him to be President so badly that they are willing to believe something that is obviously untrue in order to feel better about the situation.

  • President Obama was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961.
  • Obama is the first President to make his birth certificate public.
  • Obama's birth was announced in two papers in Hawaii.
The birth certificate that Obama has put online is an official certified birth certificate. There's no "long form" version that he's hiding. That's it. Hawaii has confirmed that it's the real birth certificate.
