Duggar Family New Addition: Jordyn-Grace Makes 18 Children

Duggars Want More Children

Heather K. Adams
Michelle Duggar gave birth to her 18th child Thursday at a hospital in Rogers, Arkansas. The Duggars, who have a television show called '17 Kids and Counting' on TLC, are excited about the birth of Jordyn-Grace Makiya Duggar. Jordyn weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces and was 20 inches long.

Jordyn-Grace was delivered via cesarean section, which was Michelle Duggar's third time with a C-section birth.

All of the Duggar children have names beginning with the letter 'J', perhaps because the father's name is Jim Bob, so it was no surprise that the newest Duggar also sports a 'J' name. Jim and Michelle Duggar's children are Joshua, 20, Jana and John-David, 18, Jill, 17, Jessa, 16, Jinger, 14, Joseph, 13, Josiah, 12, Joy-Anna, 11, Jeremiah and Jedidiah, 9, Jason, 8, James, 7, Justin, 6, Jackson, 4, Johannah, 3, Jennifer, 1, and Jordyn-Grace, newborn. In case you lost count, that's 10 boys and eight girls.

Jim Bob Duggar is 43 and his wife Michelle is 42.

Should the Duggars continue having children?

Associated Press quoted Jim Bob Duggar as saying, "We would love to have more." More children? Aren't 18 children enough?

Critics of the show '17 Kids and Counting' are already up in arms about the number of children the Duggars have. Some nay-sayers claim the older children are having to raise the younger children, which is unfair to the older children. I happen to agree.

As a mother of two children, I know from experience it's impossible to handle 18 children yourself. The most children I've supervised at one time was 10, and you have to rely on the help of others to keep tabs of that many children.

Even with two children, it can be hard. Balancing each child's schedule with work and chores is a difficult task. Sometimes it's hard to give each of my two children the individual attention they both deserve. When my two children get sick, it can be a nightmare. I can't imagine what it's like in the Duggar household when 18 children get sick.

In watching '17 Kids and Counting', I know the older Duggar children claim they don't mind and in fact love having this many siblings. However, the older Duggar children have had to grow up much too quickly. The older Duggar children aren't parents. They didn't ask for the responsibility to raise additional children.

Will TLC change the name of the Duggars' television show?

According to Associated Press reports, TLC will update the name of the Duggars show '17 Kids and Counting' to include the birth of Jordyn-Grace. Jordyn-Grace's birth is scheduled to air on TLC Monday.

I come from a family of 11 and personally I think my parents should never have had any. I have 7 of my own and we are totally different from the family I grew up in. So I know both sides, I've watched the Duggars shows and responsibility is not forced upon the older children they all love each other and enjoy helping out. You know the way families are supposed to be only in our busy modern lives we've forgotten about the true meaning of family for the more important dollar to buy more useless junk we don't really need. People look at those kids they are awesome is the hatred for this family due to pure jelousy because they have something you don't have, a real family. I say God bless the Duggars and may they have as many children as God will give them and with a little luck they will spread out and the family value will return one day to the american people starting with the Duggars and all those like them.

the gosselins are the best, but i agree with Lola, they let god decide when to have more kids. good for them!

This family is very into god, and they beleive that this was gods decision, to have so many kids. God bless them!

I knew a family that was like this, but just with 11 kids. The mother's reproductive organs just stopped working, my friend told me they fell out but I don't believe her lol. Just because you CAN have more kids doesn't mean you SHOULD.

I've never seen the TV show so I don't know what to think. I know people with large families (8-10 kids). Most are exceptional parents raising wonderful children. A couple should have stopped at one. I don't have a problem with older kids being involved with childcare as long as the ultimate responsibility falls on the parents. I admit that I question the motives of someone having 18. Agreeing to a TV show suggests attention seekers. That's not a good reason to bring children into the world.

    Wow:)

I couldn't handle eight kids let alone eighteen. They have the right to do as they wish as far as having kids, and they seem to be happy and very well cared for, but I also agree that kids should not be responsible for the continual care of other kids.

I am also on the fence about this one...I respect their decision t(and everyone else's) to have the family they want, but I wonder what goes on behind the scenes, I know they run their own "church" business, which makes me skeptical. But perhaps, they are legit. In any event- excellent coverage! This family sure is an interesting one!

they are so sick .. im a christian and they make christianity look like a cult everytime i look at them my stomach get so queasy . michelle is 42 for god sakes and is still going at it. it is not fair to the children because most likely the older ones will end up taking care of the younger ones. i pray she gets menoupause ASAP because i cant take seeing another duggar selfishly brought into this world
