DUI Lawnmower Adventure

And Other Weird DUIs

Coming just a couple of weeks after the unusual DUI incident involving a woman riding a horse yet another weird DUI incident has occurred. This time the vehicle of choice was a lawnmower.

In the southern state of Louisiana a resident of West Monroe was arrested for driving his lawn mower whilst drunk. The offender is 48-year-old Larry Minniefield. The drunken lawmower driver was charged by Ouachita Paris police with one count of driving while under the influence.

Local police already dealing with a different incident spotted Minniefield on his drunken lawnmower adventure. While dealing with the other incident police officers noticed Larry Minniefield drive past atop a John Deere lawnmower. A few minutes later, Minniefield drove past the officers again. This time coming down the middle of the road and looking suspiciously like he had had a few too many alcoholic beverages.

This is when the police officers stopped Larry Minniefield and made him step down from the lawnmower. While the lawnmower was returned to Larry Minniefield's mother, Minniefield was escorted to the Ouachita Correctional Center. At the correctional centre Minniefield was charged and then released on a $650 dollar bond.

Another unusual DUI incident happened at the start of April in Sylvania, Alabama. In this case a woman was seen riding her horse through the town causing cars to swerve around her. Police were called to the scene and attempted to get the woman, 40-year-old Melissa Byrum York, to dismount from her horse. However, Byrum under the influence of alcohol and other drugs attempted to escape police. At one point she rammed her horse into the chasing police car. Byrum was finally caught when she attempted to escape on foot. However, this escape attempt did not do as the intoxicated horse rider had hoped and her foot got caught in the saddle's stirrup, allowing police to take her into custody.

In March a 42-year-old Billings, Montana resident was arrested for driving under the influence after an accident. When questioned the offender, Philip Carston Holiday Jr. told police that the accident was not his fault because he was not driving the car. In fact Holiday said that when the crash happened it was actually a unicorn that was driving the vehicle.

In Pennsylvania earlier this month 45-year-old Paul H. Zeigler from Glen Rock arrived in court to face his charge of driving under the influence. The DUI occurred on March 26. However, when Zeigler arrived at court he was drunk. The man was arrested again and given a blood test. This resulted in the man getting another DUI charge.
