Dumb and Stupid Laws in Colorado

Janet Trieschman
Dumbness and stupidity can be found at the highest levels of our society. The law is not exempt from examples of stupidity. And it is found far and wide across our country in each and every state. All states have weird and dumb laws on the books. It is often more time consuming and costly to have them removed, so there they sit. They usually aren't acted upon but they are legal and binding and can be enacted upon if an officer of the law wanted to do so. Some are actually new and have been used recently. How strange are Colorado's weird laws? Here are the top five strangest laws in Colorado. These are listed here in descending order for your entertainment. It is hoped that you would not use them to enact a citizen's arrest! Talk about dumb and stupid!

Keep in mind if it is a law, there was a reason or a need for it to be written.

Number 5
From Denver:
It is unlawful to lend your vacuum cleaner to your next-door neighbor. Because it is un-neighborly?

Number 4
From Denver:
The dog catcher must notify dogs of impounding by posting, for three consecutive days, a notice on a tree in the city park and along a public road running through said park. Because all running dogs stop to read signs posted on trees.

Number 3
It is illegal for liquor stores to sell food or grocery stores to sell any alcohol except beer that is at most 3. I was with you up until the word beer and then you lost me. I didn't know beer could be 3. Are they talking age?

Number 2
One may not mutilate a rock in a state park. Because rocks need to be protected by laws and so many people were mutilating rocks otherwise.

Number 1
Tags may be ripped off of pillows and mattresses. Right On! Have you ever read the tag on your pillow that states it is unlawful to remove it?

Bonus strangeness:
From Arvada
Establishments which sell alcohol must have enough lighting to read text inside them. Text inside the alcohol or text inside the establishment? Either way, is anyone buying alcohol going to take the time to read? So if the library wanted to sell alcohol all would be good!

My City Council Representative's office could find no law on the books regarding the lending of one's vacuum cleaner in Denver.

#1--I remember when the tags on pillows/mattresses used to say that it was illegal to remove them. But now they've altered it to say it's illegal to remove them except by the owner...I use to revel in my removing of tags. Bwahahaha!

I currently live in Colorado, I've broken two of those laws, I'm not saying which ones though.
