Dumb and Stupid Laws in Maryland

Janet Trieschman
Dumbness and stupidity can be found at the highest levels of our society. The law is not exempt from examples of stupidity. And it is found far and wide across our country in each and every state. All states have weird and dumb laws on the books. It is often more time consuming and costly to have them removed, so there they sit. They usually aren't acted upon but they are legal and binding and can be enacted upon if an officer of the law wanted to do so. Some are actually new and have been used recently. How strange are Maryland's weird laws? Here are the top five strangest laws in Maryland. These are listed here in descending order for your entertainment. It is hoped that you would not use them to enact a citizen's arrest! Talk about dumb and stupid!

Maryland is known as the free state. - just not free language - see below.

Number 5

It's illegal to take a lion to the movies.

But they so love the movies and taking the other animals makes them very jealous.

Number 4

Though you may spit on a city roadway, spitting on city sidewalks is prohibited.

Number 3

You may not curse inside the city limits.

See number 2 and 1.

Number 2

It is illegal to use profane language on a playground.

See number 1 and 3.

Number 1

Persons may not swear while on the highway.

Have you ever driven in Maryland? Swearing is a given.

Basically don't swear, curse or use profane language in Maryland. - Someone needs to tell the politicians.

And one I actually like and agree with:

It is a violation of city code to sell chicks or ducklings to a minor within 1 week of the Easter holiday.

Warning: This piece is written as humor. For some, unfortunately, this needs to be stated.
