Dumb and Stupid Laws in Mississippi

Janet Trieschman
Dumbness and stupidity can be found at the highest levels of our society. The law is not exempt from examples of stupidity. And it is found far and wide across our country in each and every state. All states have weird and dumb laws on the books. It is often more time consuming and costly to have them removed, so there they sit. They usually aren't acted upon but they are legal and binding and can be enacted upon if an officer of the law wanted to do so. Some are actually new and have been used recently. How strange are Mississippi's weird laws? Here are the top five strangest laws in Mississippi. These are listed here in descending order for your entertainment. It is hoped that you would not use them to enact a citizen's arrest! Talk about dumb and stupid!

Mississippi is known as the hospitality state. (really?)

Number 5
If one is a parent to two illegitimate children, that person will go to jail for at least one month.
And what happens to the children while the parent is serving time?

Number 4
It is illegal to teach others what polygamy is.
You can do it, just don't teach it.

Number 3
A man may not seduce a woman by lying, and claiming he will marry her.
You will have to settle for giving her money or expensive gifts.

Number 2
Adultery or Fornication (living together while not married or having sex with someone that is not your spouse) results in a fine of $500 and/or 6 months in prison.
For some, it might be worth it?

Number 1
Unnatural intercourse, if both parties voluntarily participate, results in a maximum sentence of 10 years and $10,000.
And if it is involuntary?

And don't forget:
It is illegal for a male to be sexually aroused in public.

Warning: This piece is written as humor. For some, unfortunately, this needs to be stated.
